die? I'm only on Episode 4 but someone posted the synopsis for Season 2 and it said she was mourning his death? I love Joanna Lumely but Denis Lawson (and their son) have some of the funniest parts.
I was born when she kissed me. I died when she left me. I lived a few weeks while she loved me.
I'm still waiting for Season 2. Aw, I really liked him. But he did seem to get more of the funnier parts, while Lumely, well, wasn't as funny as she usually is. Even the son outshines her.

Ms. Lumley is absolutely the star of the programme, but it would never have worked without Al. That was the whole point! The ending of series 1 is rather like the shower scene in Psycho... You've spent all of this time building up a great deal of interest and sympathy in Al's character, only to discover that he really isn't as central to the show as you thought! It isn't really a series about Davina and Al growing old together, it's a series about Davina trying to find her place in a life that didn't come out quite the way she'd hoped.
Ooo, baby, your domestic gross is SO BIG. That's how I know how GOOD you are!
"She's come a long way since the days of playing Purdey."
So true. But does it undermine my credibility to admit that I still just purchased the second volume of "The New Avengers"? Sure it's no Sensitive Skin... or even The Avengers... but I still secretly love the show.

Of course not - I'd never say that. Purdey is an escape-character, a kind of Super Heroine, one we can get out of our mundane lives to enjoy. "Sensitive Skin" requires a different, more connected kind of involvement. Lumley had to dig deep in order to create this kind of authenticity.
I am not a lunatic. I have the psychiatric report to prove it.
