I liked the show better after it took a darker turn
Either way it was brilliant, but the darker, more serious episodes made me think and were really touching.

I agree. The episodes of season 1 were very clever and funny, but as season 2 and season 3 aired, we got to learn more about the people of Moralton and the ironic tone of the show amplified. So many of season 2 and all of season 3 really touched me as showing the inadequacies of human nature and how the strict reverence of religion doesn't stop the deterioration of the human spirit.
Moral Orel is seriously one of the most well-done, thought-provoking television shows I have ever seen. It deserves so much recognition.

To be honest, I found several of the episodes in season 3 to be a bit boring, because they were mostly back-story episodes, which I don't really care for in any series. I would've preferred seeing more character development between Orel, Clay and Bloberta, as well as the storylines continue to focus on controversial topics, but that's just me.
shareTo be fair, there was some revealations that Dino would have expanded a lot more if the show was not cancelled.
shareAgree 100%, wish there were more episodes in this vein!
We're just a million little gods causin' rain storms, turnin' every good thing to rust
When I first started watching it, I was rather bored because it appeared to be a series of formulaic one-offs: Orel goes to church, Orel misinterprets lesson, Orel reaps havoc, Orel is disciplined partially. I suppose in hindsight, it's to set up the shockingly dark "Best Christmas Ever." Of course that was wrecked by Adult Swim airing it first and holding back three other episodes...thanks Williams Street, harbinger for the screw job at the end.
Second season though, the events and plots seemed to startte being interwoven and continuity was established. Especially the episode where Reverend Putty and Stephanie become a family. Then of course came the events of Nature setting up Season 3.
It annoys me to no end that Adult Swim cancelled the show and wouldn't let them go through the planned script.
But yeah, the show going dark was one of the most spectacular turns I have ever seen. They were touching and they did make you think...something that you'll never find from Metalocalypse (cheap shot, yes but really, the show is just awful IMO, except for the animation)

I agree. It seemed to have been cancelled just as it was getting good.
shareI'm a bit late but I agree this show got way better when it took that turn.
It annoys me that a channel it was cancelled, as the ending of the series left so many questions that I would have liked to see answered.
I used to love and respect the hell out of adult swim but with decisions like these and many others I can't bring myself to even watch or care any more.
Completely agree. Season three is one of the best seasons of television I have ever seen.
