A National Disaster

This show is by far the worst thing Warner Brothers has ever done to their animation legacy. Its a far cry from the days of Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck and a dramatic descent from Warner Animation as it stood 10 years ago. The pinnacle was from the era of Warner Cartoons Inc. in the 1940s and 1950s. Management seemingly rediscovered the cartoon catalog as a crass marketing opportunity in the late 1980s and proceeded to horribly rape our collective childhood. Loonatics is simply the latest assault, a flimsy premise to sell crap to kids. At least in the early to mid 1990s, shows such as Animaniacs, Hyseria and Freakazoid were somewhat clever and engaging. They did not proactively waste time between ads. In today's batch of Warner animation, scripts are written by committee and are abjectly afraid of being the least bit clever or interesting. As long as there are a lot of flashing lights and theres a marketing opportunity, then it will be made into a series by WB. Shame on you Time-Warner for sacrificing the goodwill and memories of people everywhere to the god of short term gains.

Loonatics Unleashed is simply an evolution in the Looney Tunes franchise. New approaches and directions happen to all great things. And it's not something to be feared and rejected outright. You need to be open to changes. Loonatics Unleashed is an attempt to take the characters of the Looney Tunes and put them in an action context for the new era. I think it was a move that was worth trying and i must say i enjoy it very much! It's an idea with alot of potential.

Besides the Looney Tunes still exist. The Loonatics have not replaced their ancestors. They've simply enriched their history!

If you don't like watching Loonatics Unleashed then don't! But there are others out there that do. Bear in mind that just because you don't like a show doesn't mean that others should be denied the opportunity to see for themselves whether they'll enjoy it.

There are so many opposers out there to this cartoon show that do great injustice to it. And i don't believe most of them are being fair to others who do like the show.

That's easy for YOU to say. Almost everybody LIKES this show! But I hate it!

reply

Any particular reason why? The animation is horrible? The lines are slow? Characters too one-dimensional? Maybe the plot is a bit rubbish? Perhaps you think that the Loonatics are killing their ancestors just by existing? (Unfortunately, that is the most used excuse for LU opponents.)

Or maybe you think that the LT's legacy is being ruined by all the violence, despite the fact that the old LT toons exploded everything in sight, while LU only uses explosions when absolutely nessescary? XD

reply

You're obviously just a child, who can't appreciate the classic Looney Toons.

reply

Well, at least you're not one of them haters who claim they've changed the original LT. That's a nice change of pace.

Yes, LU is a money-marketing scheme. It's also called 'making a living', or 'hey, this is actually a decent idea, maybe we should try a hand at it!'.

The scripts, admittedly, do need work (seriously, why does Sylph Vester call Tweetums 'Chicken Alfredo'?), but hey, no one's perfect. Take in consideration budget, time, and perhaps the state of the writers and artists. Maybe time is strained as well as the budget, or maybe the good writers/artists are, oh, I don't know, disabled or something. Then the show would be a little less polished, a little less standard quality. Oh well. That's fine, it'll bounce back eventually.

It seems to me that the writers are in a creative depression. Heck, every professional writer/artist seem to be in a depression. I haven't seen a good, well-written movie in...in...er...well, the best things I've seen in a while were Disney movies...the really old princess-y ones. But maybe that'll change, and people will actually start being creative again! Until then, I guess we'll all suffer from stuff like LU, eh? =P

I'm not sure about a national disaster but I really think this was pretty pathetic attempt by Warner Bros. to "appeal to a new gerneration". President of Warner Bros. admitted that the characters are anime based... As an anime fan these people clearly know nothing of anime. Seriously, this is the same thing Disney did when they stopped making 2-D cartoons. They saw that Pixar flicks made more money than the 2-D films so they decided that it was the computer animation that made the films. You can't cover up a sub par script with shiney computers. Pixar makes great films cause the story is great. Wouldn't have changed if it were 2-D.

I grew up with Road Rovers, Animaniacs and Freakazoid. I can still sing the theme to Pinky and the Brain from heart. They are trying to be clever and savy and it became an Epic Fail, The Batman is in that category as well.

You know what? I wonder what Chuck Jones had to say if he were still around.

To reply to this post, I would first like to re-post a comment I have already written:

"I find it amusing that so many people feel this show is bad for two reasons: simple characters and simple plots. Clearly the people who think these things, do not remember or did not watch the original Looney Tunes. The characters in this show ARE simple, and yes, the plots are simple to. THAT is what Looney Tunes was always about. A subtle, satirical commentary portrayed through simple characters in uncomplicated plots. Anyone who can complain about these characters should watch and a skit from Looney Tunes, and hopefully that will be enough for them to learn to shut up. Anyone who can compare this to the slap-stick, satirical comedy that was The Road Runner, and then say that these characters are too simple, or that these plots need more substance, is clearly an idiot. End of story."

As for those commenting on anime inspiration, I beleive they were referring to certain aspects of style. Anime-inspired does not mean anime. Just because they claimed some of the animation was inspired by the style of anime, does not mean that they were attempting to MAKE anime. Learn to understand what people say, not what you want to hear.
