Remake vs. Rip Off

Lets get one thing clear. I haven't seen this movie entirely (couldn't find a copy with subtitles) and haven't seen Changing Lanes, so I won't comment on whether or not this film is a copy of that.

But I do want to make one thing clear, especially to those who say, "well, so what if this movie was copied, that movie was a copy of another" and so forth.

When remakes are made then are done so with the PERMISSION of the original film creator. Rip offs (aparently bollywood and other indian film studio features) are movies that steal ideas from other movies without permission. Even though some things are changed, if the major plotlines and ideas stay the same (even a few of them) they must have permission to do so.

For example, Koi Mil Gaya was a movie that copied many storylines and shots from Spielberg WITHOUT his permission. They claimed "inspired" which is BS. Koi Mil Gaya was a rip off.

I agree with you 110 %,
I saw this movie called Chocolate, the director of that movie should be sued so HARD, that no other bollywood director ever dare to rip off a movie again.

Now "this" film is rated higher than the orignal, is there a good reason for that? I just don't get it.

I wouldn't say that "no other bollywood director ever dare to rip off a movie" There are still some blatant ripoffs.
