this is a joke film... the idea clearly came from the film Waking Ned.
I advise people to see waking Ned which was filmed in 1998 and is much better...

I think I am going to have to agree that this film sounds like a cheap rip-off of Waking Ned Devine.

It is interesting to see the concept applied to a village in India. Always much to learn when the familiar becomes unfamiliar...

I totally agree with you. A rip off is seldom better than the original. But what I want to know is, did the Indian filmakers accredit the idea to the makers of Waking Ned Divine?

This sort of a concept is surely an old routine one but Malamaal Weekly was filled with constant humour that can set the audience rolling. Perfect choice of characters, brilliant punches and the village setting made this film very good.
