best russian movie so far.

Yes, in my opinion, this is the best russian-produced movie so far. The only mistake they made is a horrible (more like unexisting) ad caprain. If they spen just a little more money for spin-off, they would heve goyyen oh so much more money!
well i dont care about that all i know the this is AWESOME!

so...it's better then Potemkin, Aleksandr Nevski, Ivan the Terrbile, War and Peace and Come and See?

reply

Russian, not soviet-produced

reply

oh yes. My serious apologies for this. Don't know if I insulted someone, but I actually feel pretty dumb now.

reply

Are you serious? Come on, man, you couldn't have insulted anyone. ;)

reply

Maybe, but sometimes people are very sensitive about the nationality thing :p

reply

I think, in this case we'll be able to skip it.

reply

No, not even close. Come and See is one of the best warmovies of all time.

reply

Element_five,

Are you serious about "Come and See"?

I had been given the DVD as a present (I speak Russian)
and the first 20 minutes of it were so boring that it was painfull to watch it.

I thought of throwing it away...

Regardless, Russians consider the recent "The Admiral" to be one of the best post-Soviet Russian films.

reply

Then you missed one of the most best ending scenes I have seen in any war movie.

BTW. If the only thing one can say about a movie is "it was boring", then his opinion means NOTHING.

reply

There were some great russian movies in the 1990s. This can't be the best. But a lot of money has surely been invested in making it.

I liked the film, it was entertaining to watch. Specially for me from Sweden who don't hold neither Carolus XII nor Czar Peter in any particular regard.
They were both cruel tyrants and the russian perspective on the Battle of Poltava was fun to watch.

But I have to say, the film was a little cheesy. Big wigs and some delirious sense of humour at times.
It's made to attract crowds and to make money, not to be any cinematographical masterpiece.

The Soviets had other priorities. I'm a big fan of most of the cinema of those days.

And you say you are a Swede? I guess you were sleeping during the history lessons then. I feel ashamed to be a swede when i see people like you tomba-netropolis.

Btw the realism in this movie was NON-EXISTENT.
