Czar vs Tsar

I have notticed that IMDB and some posters uses the word 'Czar' where I have only heard the word 'Tsar' before. English Wikipedia uses 'Tsar' about the Russian emperor. Is this some American English thing? I'm from Sweden and we, just like Russians, uses the word 'Tsar'.

"Czar" is archaic, but still acceptable in English publication. Tsar better represents, for the English reader, how to pronounce the word though - even though people will probably tell you the T is silent when it's not.

reply

It's sometimes spelled that way because it originates from Caesar.
