Drummer

Who was the drummer in the segment Baby Please Don't Go? It wasn't Phil Rudd. I think it was Peter Clark. I'm not sure.

Well, on the booklet it says Phil Rudd but it isnt really accurate, on the "For Those About To Rock" video it says Phil Rudd but when you look closely near the end you can clearly see Simon Wright.
It could be Tony Correnti as he recorded most of the High Voltage album.

It is Phil Rudd on Baby Please Don't Go. (read "High Voltage: The Story of AC/DC- good book!) They do however incorrecly list Phil as the drummer on "For those about to rock..." True he was on the "For those about to rock" album, but the clip is from a few years later when he was already replaced by Simon.

reply

of course that was phil rudd, that is an insult to phil. very funny clip though

It is Phil Rudd. Notice how often he gets shown in the videos he is in. Usually more than Mal or either bassist. I read that Phil always got a lot of attention from the press, record company people, TV people and publicists (and I say "a lot" in relative terms to the rest of the band members) because he was the only guy in the band who wasn't ugly as hell! When most of the suits and peopl who weren't familiar with the band found out Bon was the frontman they were shocked!

Also, which song was it where Phil looks like he doesn't want to be there at all? I don't remember right now, but there is one of the late seventies clips (I think it is one from a European TV show where they are pantomiming) and Phil looks like he would LOVE to be ANYWHERE but there pretending to be playing drums. They probably just got in a fight or something, because he definitely appears to be pouting.

Yeah I know what you mean. It was the last two clips on Disc One. They are playing in on some Spanish T.V. show in Madrid. It was apparently ten days before Bon Scott passed away. And Phill Rudd looks very unhappy and bored. He's still my favourite drummer after John Bonham though.

reply

That's it, Led Zep. It was the Madrid shows.

Have you seen the Led Zep DVD set that came out when "how the West was one did"? That's some awesome stuff there. I wish this AC/DC thing had more live footage and less Synching, but it still has some great stuff too.

reply

Yeah I have it. It is a bloody awesome dvd, some excellent footage. especially the immigrant song and the footage from the royal albert hall. The Song remains the same dvd is good aswell. I like AC/DC's "live at donnignton" that is good, but i personally prefer Bon Scott as their lead singer and I would love to see more footage from the seventies, but most of it has probably become lost or destroyed.

I also notice you like Black Sabbath, there an awesome band too. I haven't seen much of their footage. Do you know what there is of theirs? that you can get?

Thanks.

I have a tape called the Black Sabbath Story Volume One (It's the Ozzy years. I never got Volume 2), but I don't know if it's still available and I don't think it's on DVD. It had some really cool stuff on it. It cuts parts of an interview with Tony and Geezer (they may show a little of Bill Ward too, though I may be thinking of the Ozzy video Don't Blame Me) in between videos and concert footage. There is a video of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, and live footage (from different years throughout the seventies) of War Pigs (so early is this footage that Ozzy looks VERY young and he is singing the original WAlpurgis lyrics rather than the more political ones that became classic) and Symptom of the Universe, plus a couple of things taken from European TV shows, like the AC/DC stuff. I don't know of any old Seventies Sabbath videos or concert films that are available at this time on DVD.

There is that AC/DC movie from 1978 (maybe 79) called Let There BE Rock. I hope they put that on DVD, but it's not at this point.

I had an old tape I recorded from the TV (very poor quality) of Song Remains the Same, but I bought the DVD just last week! I found it at Blockbuster as part of a buy 4 for $19.99 deal.

Any live Bon-era AC/DC or Ozzy-era Sabbath that I find, I will buy!

Thanks. I have seen some of the early Sabbath stuff on those european T.V shows. But I remember seeing the Last Supper DVD(I think thats what it is called) the other day. Let There Be Rock sounds cool. I think that was in Paris, i've got the cd to that. Song Remains the Same wasn't Led Zeppelin's best concert but it does have some very good music on it. I'm currently waiting for the Countdown DVD to come out. As you may or may not know, countdown was a very popular Australian Music T.V. show in the Seventies, and AC/DC played on Countdown several times. Just like you can see on Family Jewels. When that comes out I hope there will be some more AC/DC on it.

That's really cool. What country are you in? I'm in Louisiana, USA. I would love to see Countdown.

I bet BBC has just LOADS of great performances from great bands on various shows. I enjoy most of the CD's BBC releases (Yardbirds, Led Zep, and Hendrix are 3 great ones that come to mind). Have they released any DVD's that you know of? I saw a Lynyrd Skynyrd from the Old Grey Whistle test which is OUTSTANDING. I think it's from 75 or 76. It is after Ed King left and before Steve Gaines joined, during the Gimme Back My Bullets era.

What other rock releases from international Television do you know of? I can't get enough of that stuff, though, as I stated before, I much prefer true live performances to pantomiming over a prerecorded track.

reply

I'm from Australia. And countdown is a huge thing over here. there actually thinking of reviving the series for National T.V. I have seen a few of the Old grey Whistle Test stuff like Iggy Pop, Dire Straits etc.
I can't think of many BBC releases off the top of my head. I live in a more rural part of Australia, so i really have to go to the city if i want to find some of that rare stuff.

I agree the live performances have so much more energy to them. Thats where a lot of new music fails, they can't provide good live performances.

There are some european Television appearances that is available over here. If I think of anything else i will let you know. Cheers
