How many fans will see this?

Hey guys,

I am fan of The Three Investigators and the Secret of the Skeleton Island was one of my favourite 3 investigators books.

Do you think this movie will be as good as the book? And will you watch the movie?

Paul

I have to agree with you. I've looked at the profiles of the actors, and even though they are 13 years old, they look too young.

Any idea if this will be set in the '60s?

This movie will be crap. The books are great and can be enjoyed even if you aren't a kid anymore (I'm 26), but this movie will be aimed at kids and older fans will miss out :( We can hope.

I don't understand how you can reach your conclusion with not knowing anything about the movie. I, for one, will see it just to see how well they capture the feeling of the books. That can be done even by updating some of the "facts"...the feel can still be there and the good storyline. We shall see.

reply

You are right, we'll see. But I feel that by putting 3 Investigators in 2007, the movie won't have the same "feel" as the book. They'll have access to mobile phones, the internet, e-mail etc., stuff they didn't have back in the '60s. We'll see I guess.

Let me ask you - how popular are 3 Investigators in the US?

It's funny because I never heard of them when I was growing up. However, when I mention it to other adults they will say they read that when they were a kid. Also, I know some teenagers and pre-teens that have read the books (just one here or there) while growing up.

Maybe more "known" than I thought...but not like in Germany.

reply

Its similar here in the UK. If you go to Slovakia, you can still get new 3 Investigators books from bookshops, the original and the German series. So if not many current teenagers have read the books, I wonder who the target audience for the movie will be.

Germany is the target market for this film. Hopefully, it will get worldwide distribution, but it is a German studio making the film and their audience is in Germany. That would hit fans of all ages there.

reply

I definitely plan on seeing it. The Three Investigators aren't that well known in the US, especially compared to the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew. However, it was my favorite series growing up and I have most of the books in hardcover and the rest in paperback. I did not care for the Casebusters series quite as much, though. I wish that the rest of the German books would be translated into English so that an American audience can enjoy them.

reply

I've read couple of books from the German series. They are OK, but not as good as the originals. One thing that I idn't like about the last book from the German series was that Peter and Jupiter argued a lot. They've almost stopped being friends at one point.

I will watch the movie no matter how bad it is. I grew up reading the books, and finally after years, there is a movie coming out. There is only one 'First T3I movie' ever, and I don't intend to miss it.

Of course, its not going to be out in theaters here, but, I hope I can get it on DVD.

reply

I also loved the books when I was a kid. I had no idea that the series was still going on in Germany. What a strange fact actually. I agree that it might be aimed at the kids. I will rent when it comes out.

reply

I'll see it but it kinda looks risky.

The kids look young as another user said and this film will be BUTCHERED if it is set in modern day times, god damn it, most likely it will. I have a feeling it won't capture the feel of the films and they might twist the storyline around.

I'm a fairly good fan, but a huge but just a fan I guess. My guess is that since they are putting this one first, they want to attract more attention and my guess is that it won't start out with them being investigators but just a bunch of kids who are friends and after this "adventure", they become the investigators. Thus, I am getting worried.

Once more, the kids look young, hell, they are 2 years younger than me.

So yeah, I am almost 95% sure that this film will turn out like the awful Scooby Doo movies, Hoot, How To Eat Fried Worms, etc, etc. and not be a devoted film like the harry Potter films, Lord of the Rings, Holes, etc.

The trailer of the Nancy Drew movie just came out and it looks awful. They've made it look like a Hilary Duff / Lindsay Lohan teenage movie instead of a mystery film. (I must admit though that I don't know that much about the Nancy Drew universe. I only played one PC game of her 'adventures' and it had a completely different feel from the upcoming movie). I was and still am a big fan of the original T3I (and I'm 32 now) but by the look of the young actors who will be playing Jupiter and cie, I'm afraid this won't be to my likin'.

reply

I can't wait to see this film and see how it is...I'm like you, I hope it is better than the other looks. Wonder when the trailer will come out for this one?

reply

As a kid I read all the books I could get hold of. Didn't see this movie in the theater but got it on Netflix. It could have been better but wasn't near as bad as I'd feared.

reply

They went young with the actors because it was the first movie and they wanted them to age...as the characters did...through the planned series of three movies.
