Was GNOME inspired by "Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain" a.k.a. Amélie?

I just watched this AMAZING movie and the same thing with the gnome and the pictures happened there... was Gnome inspired by that or is just a thing people do with gnomes (lol) ?

actually the gnome story in amelie is actually based on a gnome stealing fad that started in the 80's. they'd steal the gnome,send it around the world with photos of it, and put it back in the owners lawn with the photos and maybe another gnome.
