I do clean-outs and demolition for a living and the prices they flash up on the screen bothers me, there was a Demolition of a porch for $600 this had to be just labor there is no way they could have gotten it done with the price of the dump fee. Does anybody know if the prices are for just labor they put up.
shareI wondered the exact same thing about the projects in these flips - are they listing labor or materials or both? For demo there can be a steep removal/disposal charge too.
I just watched one of Rudy's LA flips (I think he referred to the project as the Meridia house) and I was questioning his breakdown. $1000 for beautiful hardwood flooring and something like $400 to paint the interior and exterior. $2900 for custom kitchen cabinets? Rudy is really good at what he does and I think he's a great business man but I have to question the costing. He can negotiate prices with his contractors and suppliers because he deals in volume but I wonder about the accuracy of his expenses.
Are they using under-the-table labor?
I stopped paying attention to the pricing on all of these "reality shows." None of it seems accurate.
A good example - although a completely different genre - was Monster Garage. They had a build budget, and they almost always met it, yet they were always getting "freebies"... "So and so company just donated this brand new $10,000 engine - freebie!!!"
This seems to happen on all the renovation shows. I've ALWAYS questioned the money involved in the flipping or renovating of these homes. I've done almost a complete remodel of my home throughout the years, and yes, I realize that the contractors often screw the client for as much money as they can, but even if one manages to find a good contractor for a reasonable price, there is still no way that it's going to be as low as they seem to get on shows like this. It's just not possible.
