That's not the matter. The matter is, the movie executives who greenlighted these movies may love Pope John Paul II to death, but they wouldn't have done it if they didn't believe that these projects would be profitable. So, that's not really the matter, not in a million years...

Oh man, the *beep* piled up so fast in Vietnam you needed wings to stay above it.

Unfortunately you are correct on the $ side. But at least the story is being told.
I read the script of this one and it was the first script in years that brought tears to my eyes. It was very well written. There was so much about Pope John Paul II that I never knew. Hopefully the Jon Voight CBS film will be able to do the same.
Whether they break even or make 100 mil, it all comes down to entertainment. It is nice to see a project that gives you historical information as well as inspiration to those in strife. This film was just reported in the New York Times yesterday not to be laidened with celebrities as the Jon Voight film is, and seeing "up and commers" or "no names" in a historical film helps me forget I am watching tv, or sitting in a theatre and allows me to be taken in by the story instead of going, "Oh, there's Jon Voight. Have not seen him for a while. I liked him in such and such." Or, "What is Kevin Costner doing playing a polish dude? His accent is crud." I cannot wait to compair the two stories and see which effects me more.

I thought "Have No Fear: The Life of Pope John Paul II" was very well done. It was truly inspirational. It was a beautiful and moving film.

I started watching the Jon Voight one... and so far, it's excellent as well. It definitely has a lot more celebrities, as you said. I think it's pretty funny that Christopher Lee plays a Cardinal.. haha

this movie touched my heart. it made me cry every bit of it. they showed many scenes when he was a very young boy....and that is very important. i believe in good moral values presented to very young children. a foundation that is full of humility, hope, love for thy neighbors and a very strong faith in God. faith can really move mountains. in the end we will all be measured by love. and he was loved by all. may he rest in peace.amen.

What do you think of the production-values in this movie? Were they good? Could you tell where it was shot, etc? How'd the Pope look? Too skinny? (personally, I thought he was; the make-up was very good and they say the camera adds 10 pounds).

i'm thankful they made a movie about john pope paul ii. whatever the production people's motives are, it is certainly none of my business. i'm sure they donate a lot of funds to people who are in need. the actors were all great, i did not even concentrate on the looks. everything is great! story is moving!may he rest in peace. amen.
