'My daughter is very pretty... Good for movies'

I just saw this movie and I liked it a lot. Great visuals, atmosphere, story, acting, themes, etc. I can add this one to my list of horror movies that genuinely scared me.

Anyway, did anyone else besides me think back to this brief line of dialouge after seeing the movie, and wonder what was that all about? Was Marie's father pretending to have another daughter just for conversational use, was he actually referring to Marie, herself (the person he was talking to), or what? Does it have any significance?

Good catch. He must have been talking about her because he is a creep.

I think that use of the (English) third-person is common amongst Eastern Europeans. I worked at a University where I had several students from that region over the years. They'd use third person for second, second for first - as in "Is my instructor (meaning me) calling on me?" - their first few months in the US.

So no, I don't think he was being pervy.

I think he was genuinely being complimentary to his daughter. There was no reason to think of it as a perverted statement. Even though he was a ghost it might have been the first time he actually saw her as a grown woman.

I know that I am stupid but when I look around me I feel a lot better.
