42 years? (spoilers)

At one point in the movie the brother says that it's been 42 years. That would make it 2008? MOvies just usually aren't set in the future, unless it is explained. BUt then the rest of the film refers to it being 40 years. It just confused me, thats all, nothing important.

I think the plot was OK, but not the best of the 8 movies. Even Wicked Little things was better than this one. Because the plot seems to be given away early, there is no ending, other than what you expect. The visuals in this film were creepy, thats the only plus it had as a horror film. Other than that it should have been a drama. The while "finding out their past" thing was not that great, i expected something much better, other than the father was meant to kill them. What makes the father so powerful that he can come back and make the circle complete? Fate? If that was the case, and the movie is just about fate, then they can keep the story going with millions of other stories of people who have escaped fate, that would be much more interesting than a father who goes crazy. I mean, make a story about the fate of some horrible dictators child who was adopted and come to find out was HItlers long lost kid and thats why he or she should die. I dunno, i just didn't like it that much.

Dead Silence comes out tuesday too, watch it instead of this one.

Ya i noticed that also. At the beginning that guy in the office was telling Mary jones that it's 42 years ago, and she replied: 41 years, it's still another 2 days to my birthday.
But how can this be? I guess who wrote the screenplay was not expecting this film to see the light before 2008!!

It begins during 1966, and one has to assume the babies are newborns and if they are Marie and Nicolai they should be 40 years old not 42. And if it happened in 1966, why does Nicolai say it happened 42 years ago (assuming present time is 2006.) I was confused as to wether this was intentional or a super big goof. Maybe it was an overlapping of the past, present, and future, but still...

that was a funny thing i noticed in "the gravedancers" too. in the beginning a headstone was marked as death being nov 20-something, 2006. i believe the horrofest weekend was nov 11th or something, so that amused me i told my friend "hey this entire movie is taking place one month in the future!" lol

Don't ask who looks after the Overlook Hotel while Jack is busy growing up. It's common courtesy.

the babies were 2 years old when it happened first

No, you are wrong. You could see that the babies in the truck at the beginning were no more than a few weeks old. Nowhere near 2 years old!!

Regardless of whether this film was set in the future at the time of release, the dates dont add up.

At the beginning the babies are a few weeks old, we then forward through 40 years and shortly after this she is at the house with her brother who states it has been 42 years. This doesn't add up.

I was told there would be no math.

I... Wow. I just can say I've never thought about that before. Holy crap.
