Ending? (spoilers)

Can anyone comment on the ending? I felt bad for his girlfriend!

reply

He had been looking high and low for her for months while she was tramping around. I didn't feel bad for her at all.

I actually liked the movie. The girlfriend never tried to contact him and ended up with her mother.. bleh...

The VERY end, i think he's back at the other girls house, you know he's gonna get back together with her, she'll be mad at first but will understand he had to find out what happened to Reina.

However, he could have just called instead of bussing it to Atlanta..

I had some problems with the movie but overall i enjoyed it.

I don't think Milagros would take him back. It was very stupid and cruel of Marlon to dump her and everyone else who helped him, everything he had built up in NY, to pursue a girl who had shown herself to be bad news. Milagros told him to never come back.

I would have liked it better if Marlon had decided to forget about Reina and stick with Milagros. But I admit the movie is more dramatic with the final Atlanta episode. Latin American films seem to tend toward bleak, pessimistic endings.

Some other good immigration movies are:

EL NORTE
SIN NOMBRE
MARIA FULL OF GRACE
ENTRE NOS
SANGRE DE MI SANGRE
LA MISMA LUNA
LA CIUDAD
SANTITOS

Who Reina? I did somewhat also. She wanted to find her Mom but could never tell Marlon cause I dont think she ever really believed he loved her. She used sex to manipulate him cause she thought that that was all her wanted from her. I think after he disappeared from the hostel she probably thought the interrupted sex with him in Mexico wasnt good enough to keep him around so she never cared to look for him since she didnt want to be rejected again like with her Mom.

If you are talking about Milagros, then she is like any other person in a relationship with someone that is in love with someone else. No matter what you do or how good you are to them, you will ultimately be setting yourself up for disappointment.

It's eleven o'clock, who are you looking to hook up with, Spike and Drusilla?

I felt NO sympathy for Reina...she seemed like a c0ck teasin' b!tch from the START and was genuinely using sex (or the TEASE of sex) to get what she wanted out of Marlon...the fact that she stole money at a wedding told you what kind of person she really was! She deserved every bit of the "life" she made in Atlanta!

As for the ENDING, ending...I thought it was brilliant...will Milagros take him back? (she DID say something to the effect of "don't bother coming back!"), is he S.O.L.? Brilliant ending left up to interpretation.

I was so confused by the ending. Reina only wanted to come to the US to be with her alcoholic Mother? Why did she abandon Marlon? What was with the kid, and how long had elapsed between when they were together. Since neither Spanish or English are my native tongue, I apologize for not getting major plot points. Any spoilers would help.

whatever she wanted to do in New York, she didn't stick to the plan she told Marlon. He was thinking that they both would stay with her aunt inside the city and when he left her, his only clue to find her was to find her aunt. Maybe Reina didn't even have an aunt in New York.

I believe it was about nine months Marlon was by himself. the only hint about the time is the radio dedications he paid for looking for Reina or anyone else that has seen her.

The ending was disappointing. He went back to NY and back to the same house but for what purpose? Hoping to be accepted again? Or regretting what he did? Since it's not clear that he regretted what he did and learned from his mistakes, I think it was a bad ending. When Reina told him he's still the same, it would have been better if he would have admitted how immature he was and how he behaved like a spoiled kid at times and how he didn't truly appreciate everything everyone had done for him (including his own parents in Colombia)... But since he didn't say so, we don't know if he's learned his lesson. Perhaps he didn't, and that's ok, but then I really don't care that much for him or the story.
