did this "plot" ever end up going anywhere?

Tied to watch, stopped mid season two when I realized it may never end up going anywhere.

So, did it go anywhere? Did the little dangles of possibly interesting plot ever resolve? Or is it like every other show that has to thrive on making sure it can CONTINUE indefinitely and and never really have a satisfying ending?

And don't say, "You just have to watch it", soap operas are not for me.

You just have to watch it

The show runners CLAIM is that they have a fixed story arc that'll run five seasons, tops.

Season two does tie up its loose ends fairly tidily (while setting up season 3).

In fact, all three seasons manage to do so, so it's not like "Lost" where the creators promised things they never delivered, while also being hamstrung by the writers' strike.

Whether that's enough to satisfy you is up to you.

Personally, I liked all three seasons, but haven't gone back to watch them very much since then. I also think the whole story could've ended very satisfactorily with the end of season two (including a post-credits stinger after the final episode)

I should love it, but I hate things that never RESOLVE anything. They do that so they can keep getting new budgets and continue making them, and pay people, but it's very unsatisfactory to me.

I'm with you. I thought season one was great. In season two, the plot started to meander and I didn't care for where some of the character arcs were going. Oh, and there was no Anthony Hopkins.

reply

Ummm, Anthony Hopkins DOES show up in season 2. The character is dead but they still found a way to integrate him into the story.

Season 3 had almost nothing to do with seasons 1 & 2.

I want to ask - without having to watch everything - in season one, someone found an antenna that linked to a satellite....
it seemed like a pretty big deal at the time, leading to much larger conspiracy or SOMETHING....

but, when season 1 ended, and they never touched on the antenna again, I was thinking, "Oh great! It's one of THOSE things that tempts some big idea, then they simply shoot Snoke and it was a non-event deal" No thanks.

So, did that plot thread ever go anywhere IMPORTANT?

reply

Yes, but you'd have to watch season 2 to see why

The existence, function and conspiracy are all pretty much covered

I'd say, overall, there weren't any plot threads that went nowhere. Some aren't completely resolved, and of course audiences may not LIKE the resolutions given, but there's never a sense of ideas thrown against the wall and forgotten about.

For want of a better term, it's a very self-confident show. The showrunners have a clear vision and are sticking to it.

My overall issue with the series is the narrative cheating it takes by revealing bits and pieces from various time jumps. This may seem like an effective tactic to keep audiences intrigued but to me it's just glaringly lazy. Others here commented that it's NOT LIKE "LOST", but I have to disagree that this show has J.J. Abrams'/Bad Robot's fingerprints all over it.

I'm working thru the end of Season 2 and found the character episodes a classic example of handfeeding a story but skipping the emotional evolution of those said characters. When they feature Akecheta's story line they give us a half-ass flashback sequence of events yet his story has more intrigue to me than Dolores and Maeve combined, and it also appears he's the original flashpoint for why the whole of Westworld become unraveled in the first place.
