Are we supposed to care about the hosts?

The show continuously makes a huge deal of every time a robot is hurt or killed, and it's almost like the filmmakers want us to actually get sad about it.

However, they've also showed us that these things are just machines which can be fixed and rebooted, so whatever happens to them doesn't matter one iota.

So why make the scenes of these guys getting hurt so dramatic? It's never gonna be any more emotional than seeing a car break down.
