A lot of International Movies are NTSC and there are many DVD players that are compatable with this.
NTSC and PAL are two main television broadcast standards used worldwide. The systems project color images at different frequencies and they are not compatible with each other.
NTSC is the acronym of the National Television System Committee and this standard is used on North America, Canada, Mexico and Japan.
PAL stands for Phase Alternating Line and it is the TV standards used for Europe, Hong Kong and the Middle East.
DVDs have to match the television standard in order to have proper color display. If a TV is PAL only, it will display NTSC pictures in black and white, and vice versa. This problem can be easily solved by adjusting DVD player to match the system or changing the default system to auto so that it will switch to the right system automatically.
