Artist/deaf girl storyline way too depressing

Was I the only one who found their storyline too depressing? I thought it was awful how he couldn't love her because she had a disability and a minor scar on her face. Talk about sad. Here they had that whole cute scene where the guys she works with tell her that when someone looks at the person they love, they look with their heart, not a mirror, and it turns out the artist is shallow and wanted someone who fit his image of her as this perfect girl (as seen in his drawings).

All the other characters had sad storylines (obviously), but I found their's to be the most sad and realistic. There are so many people out there who shun others with disabilities or less-than-perfect physical looks.

Too depressing for me. ;_;
