I was just wondering, what's the previous history between Pepa and Sylvia? Did they know each other when they were younger?

They're indirectly related. Pepa's brother is Silvia's ex-brother in law. So they did know each other from their younger days.

In fact they kissed during a family member's communion when they were 18 before Pepa supposedly left the family.

Thanks for that. I've been watching episodes on YouTube and I think I've got it figured out. Lola and Paco are married. Lola is Sylvia's sister and Paco is Pepa's brother. Sara is their daughter and is their niece.

I really like this show. I wish they had it here in the States somehow.

Don Lorenzo is the father of Silvia and Lola. Pepa and Paco are brother and sister. Silvia married Pepa. Lola married Paco. Lola and Paco's daughter is Sara.

Pepa and Silvia met when they were teens. Pepa was even Silvia's first kiss (and her last). What happened was... Pepa and Silvia were at Sara's communion. Pepa and Silvia got high (off pot) and kissed. Everyone was upset. Pepa ran away. About 10 years later, Pepa began working at the precinct and re-met Silvia. They fell in love. After dating for a year, Silvia wanted a baby, and Pepa was unsure. They had a huge fight (that even got physical). They broke up for a few months. After some time, they got back together. Silvia proposed to Pepa. They got married, and during the wedding reception, Silvia was shot in the stomach. She died in Pepa's arms.
