I just would like to say that they should have reopened this case back in the 1970's when the two men that beat this young boy to death were still alive.I don't know why they think that it is going to do any good to start investigating again now that the two men that admitted that that did it in a magazine after they were aquitted are dead. One died in 94 and the other died in 98, both of cancer if im not mistaken. I kind of think that this is just some bull sh*t way of trying to make Emmett's surviving family members feel good and think that something is still going to be done about Emmett's murder. One example of the very shamfull things that America does sometimes.

Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.

They opened the case back up so that white people can feel vindicated and less guilty about the situation. They are not expecting to find anything or anyone, they are opening in acknoledgement that it was wrong and now we understand and are sorry. Yes, would have been nice then, but those guys couldn't have been tried again anyway, double jeopardy. A day after the trial they sold their story and admitted they did it for $4000 to a reporter.

I thought that they couldn't charge those men anymore because they had already been acquited and you can't put a person on trial for the same crime again because of double jeopardy, right?

They could be tried again if new evidence wass found and then the charges needed to be pressed again. If they can prove that the white woman (if she is still alive) knowing knew that her husband and his friends would kill Emmett Till and did nothing to stop them, then they can charge her with accessory to murder, since her husband and the other man are dead.

Emmett Till's murder and the mock trial of his murderers is one of the many misjutices in this country. Things like this still happen but with more awareness it happens less often. America has a bad history of overlooking things unless they happen to white Christians. IMO.

Unfortunately, a person cannot be tried twice for the same crime.
Therefore those bastards got away with everything.
