I think the little crab-thing came from the chest of the monster. When I watched a short behind the scenes video, the animatronic head of the monster wasn't too bad. But I agree, it was a rip-off of Alien and very bad CGI.

Looked like a Headcrab.

yeah - it looked like a cross between alien and the creature on the airplane wing from twilight zone!

The way the monster looked was the worst part of the movie. It looked like an extremely fake combination of Alien and Predator. It brought the movie down quite a bit.

The Monster was in terrible CG also

Fangoria had a pic of a guy in a costume that was the orginal monster, but they went all "I Am Legend" and decided to let the computer do all the work.

Well, the monster might be intelligent...it never really seemed to do anything that showed it was more than your typical movie animal.

In a moment of extreme "how the hell do you know that?", it is surmised that the monster was some kinda alien probe sent to gather DNA from Earth lifeforms. The Anazazi worshiped it, and then one day (because it felt like it), it turned on them and killed the whole tribe.

It's present day body count is around 10-15 people, several cows. It usually rips up the body with lots of claw like appendges, but for some reason it detaches a piece of itself to hunt out some victims. Oh, and it can spray out lil worm things that disolve you from the inside out. (Props to the creators for NOT giving this thing 'Chestburster' capabilities....I was waiting for that the whole movie...at which time I would have turned off the movie...jk)

"Yes, it's the Apocalypse alright. I always thought I'd have a hand in it."

I thought I was the only one who noticed the creature looked like it was a reject from the Alien movies. I still was entertained by the movie and its not as bad as people say. You want bad watch Lake Dead, or Nightmare man

I thought the monster was nothing but a rip-off from Pumpkinhead and Alien!! Like a sort of cross between them two! I really don't get it about this movie though ¬_¬... Nothing has been explained much either. >:(

Suckage bullcrap! I can't believe I wasted time on it! >_<

I didn't think the monster was terrible, as much of a rip-off as it looked (reminded me more of the creatures in "The Cave" combined with the aliens in "Alien" the spider parasite thing reminded me of the parasites in "Cloverfield", though, this movie came out before "Cloverfield".

One must remember that this is a low budget film. While I did think the last 10 or 15 minutes of the movie sucked, I thought the effects for the creature were better than the effects in most Sci-Fi Channel Original Movies. The creature was CGI for a majority of the scenes and the CGI monster looked better than some random dude in a rubber suit (the animatronic, live-action creature effects kinda sucked compared to the CGI).

I know horror movie fans who were born in the 70s and 80s think that a man in a rubber suit and prosthetic and makeup effects are superior to a CGI creature. This can be true in some cases, especially if it's a low budget movie (a CGI creature in a low budget movie is often horrid). I was born in late 1989 and grew up watching monster movies with digital effects and creatures. I perfer them over makeup effects in some cases. I've seen movies in which the visual effects were overdone and glossy looking as well. I am Legend has some of the worst digital creatures I've ever seen.

However, makeup and live action creature effects can also be horribly fake looking and look even worse than computer animation at times. It's one of the reasons I didn't like Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer, the creatures were laughable. I liked both Feast movies however (the second one especially) because the creatures, while they were fakish, embraced their corniness and made the movies great.

I have gone a little off topic but the point is, I do believe computer animation and digital effects are better than some guy in a rubber suit. It's 2008 and we need to see that.

well i must agree to disagree with most of you. Yeah, the monster sucked, but bringing alien to this in comparison? Even the first alien, which dates almost 30 years from this movie, looks a lot more real than this crap.
I saw "the cave" a day before this one, and the monsters there were WAY better, even though the movie didn't get very good reviews (i actually liked it).
