2.7 - Unbelievable

Generally I find IMDB User Ratings to be useful and fairly accurate, sure I have had some disagreements with certain movies but every once and awhile I come across a film ratting like Pride’s. There is no good reason for it to be a 2.7, it’s times like this the IMDB User Rating is crap. Just because you don’t like a film people, doesn’t mean it’s a 1 or just cause you love a movie doesn’t make it a 10. Have some kind of fair judgment on film, or jus don’t vote at all. A 2.7 is in no way a fair rating for this film, I personally will give it an 8, which is probably higher then most. So, when I come on IMDB I won’t be surprised to see it in the 7 or 6 rang, hell even the low 5’s. People who screw with the voting system should be thrown out, come on people just be fair. Even if this kind have sports movie has been done before, even if you hate the actors, even if you think it is untrue to life, a 3 or lower pretty much is saying the movie has little or nothing good about it, and of this film that just ain’t so.

A 2.7 is just ridiculous. Although this movie was pretty much the same as others of this genre, you know inner city youth inspired by a coach with a great heart uplifts the community, I still have to say that I thought it was pretty good. I think that it deserves at least a 7. The people who are voting probably haven't even watched it.

Hey I'm white, and I like watermelon as much as the next guy, but I thought this was terrible.

Its because mostly everyone on IMDB is racist. Every movie with a all black cast gets bad reviews when there really good movies. Pride, Drumline, and hell even Stomp the Yard is a better then what people are rating them. I don't think there is one movie on here with a mainly all black cast with a high rating.

reply

I am genuinely shocked by the reviewers comments his angry review and comments about black people and social programs was excessive and uncalled for. It sounds like he put his personal feelings ahead of writing an objective review. I would have somewhat understood his anger if the film took place in 2007 but this is what the world was like in 1974, its part of American history as unpleasant and distasteful as it is it was our reality back then. The film was a period piece, it wasn't as good as Remember the Titans or some other black sports films but it was pretty good I would give it an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10.

I was thinking the same thing!! Almost every black movie on this site has a poor rating. How in the world did that stupid a** movie, "Blades of Glory", get a 7.0 out of 10???? Someone please help me out on that one.

God everyone has to bring in the race card when it comes to movies that are directed or with a cast of predominately blacks, No Drumline was a piece of s h i t, So was stomp the yard, that movie was horrendously bad I was dragged to see it which didn't make it any better especially that the film was directed with a jiggly as hell handy cam in most of the scenes. Just quit bringing In racism cause I doubt thats the main reason this movie has such a low rating.

I like the movie and some will and some won't. Its all about what a person can relate to. Black people can relate because they have been through or have been told about the struggle to succeed in a sport or career that have been dominated for another race. White people may or may not like this type of movie because they may not relate to it. If you look at the fact that its a movie trying to tell a story and it you can relate fine and if you can't that's fine too. But to say that there are no Black teams in this or that is no called for. Every person of every race should be afforded the opporitunity to try anything and swimming, hockey, tennis etc is no inclusive to any one race. People can excell in anything with the right training and that what I got from the movie. As far as the rating just because a select group doesn't agree with you doesn't mean it's not good. If you like it you, get more people to watch and purchase the DVD. That will show everyone how well it was received.

"Its because mostly everyone on IMDB is racist."

I hope you're joking. I don't know wether to laugh or cry when reading this sort of 'brilliant' comments.

Go see a shrink about that paranoia and do us all a favour...stay away from IMDb message boards.

...The world isn't out to get you. The whole world isn't racist. It's only the inferior intellectual black man who plays the racism card every time he disagrees with something. It's a terrible film. Just accept it. Why does 'Pride' get terrible ratings and 'Malcolm X' or ' Inside Man' get praised by everyone. Maybe Spike Lee is a man who does know how to make interesting films and maybe Sunu Gonera just doesn't know how. Or is that too logical for you?

First, I am white. I rated all of the aforementioned "black movies" very highly. I would like to say that I am sorry that Led head suffered brain damage due the amount of lead that he ate from his crib. We all should feel sorry for his limited understanding of movies and other complex societal issues. Perhaps Led head would be better suited for a less demanding endeavor.

You're insane. The choreography in Drumline was on its own worth the price of admission.

Exodus--I agree with you wholeheartedly. This was a good film. It's a true story. Jim Ellis is a hero and now we know why. I was moved several times, and had a large lump in my throat. Yes there were cliches and it was a bit predictable, but very good nonetheless. According to the bottom 100 films on IMDB, this would just narrowly miss the 2.6 it takes to qualify.

I also agree that people who mess with the voting should be banned, or at least suspended from IMDB. This is a great website, but the makers of Pride may not agree.

Please don't tell me that Pride isn't better than Police Academy-Mission to Moscow, Thunderpants and Santa Claus Conquers the Martians!!!

I am stunned that it has a 2.7. I give it a 7...

Out of 10, I'd give it a 5. It's not a horrible film, but we didn't actually get to know anyone. I kept feeling like we were just floating on the surface most of the time. It's almost like the whole project was created and directed by semi-racist white guys who didn't really care about the characters and just wanted to get their paychecks and go home. I wanted to love this movie, but it didn't live up to its potential. Maybe the people who worked on the film needed a swim coach to beat some sense into them.

On another subject, I'm sure there were many racist white people in 1974 since it's not hard to find them today, but I lived in the 1970s and I didn't see this nasty kind of behavior back then. I was 9 years old in 1974, so that might explain why I didn't see it. It probably depended on where you lived too. For example, I lived in Binghamton, New York in 71/72 and all races seemed to get along in my area for the most part. There were some nasty older black girls at the playground who constantly used the playground as a toilet. They would pee all over the place whenever they felt like it (which made the place stink and left very few places you could play). These nasty girls tried to beat up any white kids who wanted to play in the park, including me, so I did have a little bit of racial trouble, but it wasn't white on black hate, it was black on white. In case anyone wants to know, my best and only real friend back then was black and the apartment building I lived in seemed to be filled with every race you could imagine, so I wasn't in some separate lily-white environment.

I kind of rambled on there, but what I'm trying to say is that not every white person back then was a snarling racist. People need to make sure they don't get the wrong idea from movies like this. I've been treated nicely and badly by all kinds of people. People are people. Some are good and some are bad no matter what color their skin is.

it's racism.

everyone keeps complaining about "blacks win, whites lose" ... but this movie was based on a true story. this is what actually happened .... it's not a race war.

that's probably why people get so emotionally charged when voting.

it's kind of pathetic, to be honest.

i watched movies from the 1940's like cleopatra where everything was totally racist and i still think it's a good quality film.

God bless.

The rating for this film is singly the most convincing thing I've seen to convince that yes, this site is miserably racist.

I hate most people

by far I'm fairly convinced that majority of imdb is racist. yes.. Racist.
every second black movie i've come across is rated way low than ... baah.. who cares! i dont give a *beep* to anything white!

It's up to 3.9 now. It is stupid how people think in terms of 1 and 10's. I personally gave this movie a 5. It was a great story but I think Terrance Howard was the absolute wrong person for his role. He lacked emotion in his tone, except for the part where he yelled at the drug dealers in the rain, everything other time he was so bland, he really brought down what I thought to be pretty intense scenes. The ending was great, but he wasn't there coaching so maybe that why. But still a 5 for being so-so and if someone better played the coach it could've gotten to a 6, possibe 7.

It is now at 5.7, so get over it.
I think it would have been OK as an "After School" special.
Of course it wasn't supergood. Look at the box office for opening weekend
It soon went from 1500+ to about 90, in about 2 or 3 weeks
