Informative and Tragic.

I bought the DVD of this documentary at my local Borders book store. And I have to say not only is it an informative film, it is also an amazing and tragic film about loss and victory. I'm not sure were I stand with the bombing of the Japanese, because I have enormous respect for them, but it also ended the war. I guess draw your own conclusions.

I agree, I thought it was a beautiful film. I was really moved by the stories of the surviving citizens, especially when the 6-year old child died and her mother couldn't help her out. I had an entire week in school where we learned about atombombs and I must say that this film taught me way more than any of my teachers ever could!

The part were the man describes when he was in school when it happened and the soldier carried him to safety made me cry.

One of the hardest things I've ever had to watch on TV. Especially as a parent.

reply

As a Mom of a 12 year old, 8 year old and toddler, I had a really hard time with the scene where the Mom had to hear her child die. The rest of it I had seen before or knew of the stories in other documentaries, so I knew what to expect. But the scene with the Mom having to hear her child die was horrible. Still, this is very good documentary on the event.

Watch White Light/Black Rain: The Destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It's even better.

Go to Wikipedia and read the "Rape Of Nanking" or do a search for Japanese War Atrocities" and you'll have less respect for them.

Why are Yanks never put on trial for war crimes?

reply

i think some were, like the ones who abused those prisoners.

reply

First, only countries who lose a war can be put on trial as war criminals. We haven't lost the large scale multinational wars.

Secondly, the only American put on trial for war crimes was in the Civil War. he was the Southerner in charge of the Andersonville prison.

By the way, who did you think should be put on trial for war crimes?

reply

because we won, same reason bush/cheney/rumsfeld are not standing trial today

reply

yes, those war criminals were monsters, but i'm not gonna stereotype the ones of today.
