I bet you might have read fan fiction's on Ryan "coming out".
If it wasn't Disney and more "mature" like Glee Ryan might've had a boyfriend.

I also call it Zac Efron's first movie, first appearance. Now he's on the list of handsome males. (Dunno if any of you ever read Heat magazine British celeb magazine but he was number 1 for best looking males on it.)

I know the first film especially the beginning might look like a bit of a Grease copy but then not much else.
