this movie made like nothing

just saw this on tv other night for 1st time...remember it being the latest Coen movie advertised couple years ago posters in bus stops, ads in magazines, trailers, the big cast with Clooney as a roman etc and the Alden dude getting the Solo role due to this movie (presumably over the Ford lookalike dude) man that time has FLOWN by!

anyway expected it to have done like 150m-200m ww then checked BOMojo and.. 60m bucks ww. that's all.

wow

Yeah, this movie is criminally underrated.

reply

Because it was a nothing movie

reply

Why would you have expected that? It's probably one of the least mass audience friendly Coen films if not THE most.
I'm surprised it even made as much as it did and I liked the film

No, that must be A Serious Man...

Edit: True Grit coming close second. Or I dunno, if the mass audience found speaking in dialects funny. I didn't. And that's seemed to be all that True Grit had going on.

It made $64,000,000 on a budget of $22,000,000. I'm going to retire at age 60 on a lot less than nothing.

I liked it.

reply

I liked it, but I guess most people weren't that interested in a movie satirizing 1950s era Hollywood.

IMO, the most boring, & uninteresting Coen film ever. While the period look & style was spot-on, the story & plot was just......meh!

The best scene by far was towards the end where Josh Brolin slaps the shit out of George Clooney!!😎

I've been looking high & low for a looping .gif of that that I can use as my MC profile pic!!
