Does anyone know if they shot the sound track in sync in those days?

In this film the dialogs are shot in sync in the films within the film so if an actor says something slightly wrong the director says cut!
Is this realistic? I somehow imagined that sort of sync sound recording came later and then only in documentaries.

Hollywood movies have always tried to record as much dialogue as possible on the set.

For example, watch this for outtakes and bloopers.

Other countries have other traditions, in Italy everything was dubbed for decades, no sound equipment on the set.
