where to get recommendations for other good horror comedies?

once in a while, i like to just kick back, relax and watch some people getting slaughtered in the goriest ways... without all the seriousness of e.g. "the ruins" or "diary of the dead" (to name two recents ones).

"hack!" was something that delivered exactly that. and it was maybe the first one since "feast" - three damn years!
i've acually even been catching up on "tremors", "critters" and "leprechaun" because i'm so starved when it comes to horror comedies!

the thing is... usually, horror comedies don't get a lot of respect from reviewers. and on the websites i know, most of the new horror movies i get to read about are produced with cheap digital video equipment which makes me want to puke even while watching the trailer - which is usually conveniently placed on myspace... because 30$/year for a decent webspace with domain just isn't affordable for someone who plans to release a movie on dvd...

considering all this - is there any website you can recommend that reviews horror movies i might enjoy? where the reviewers aren't prejudiced against horror comedies?

hey thanks for those recommendations, i think they might really be my cup of tea since our opinions of movies seem to differ only slightly. i enjoyed both slither and hack! but didn't think they were great, feast 2 was "bareable" for me and the first one was almost perfect in my opinion, i also liked evil dead 2 (and 1...) and bubba ho-tep is the best horror comedy i've ever seen (especially because i think that the drama aspect of it works perfectly with everything else). i did like hatchet and behind the mask though... but i can understand why especially the latter might not have worked for you. usually i don't enjoy mockumentaries either...

so thanks again *rubbing hands in excitement* ;)

hm, guess you updated your comment while i wrote mine... because i would've noticed american werewolf (i actually like "in paris" better than "in london". i know i'm probably the only one with that opinion but oh well...), re-animator, braindead (which i think is fantastic as well), evil ed (which i don't think is good *g* - waaay too little gore...), dog soldiers (horror comedy? really? *g*) and fido (same opinion there)

anyway... yeah, i'll let you know ;)

@ paris: well, i'm not prejudiced against cgi effects. if it fits the style of the movie, i enjoy them (also, especially today they're not even always noticeable - depending on budget and number of effects). to me, the creature effects from "london" just didn't look as convincing as the cgi ones from "paris". looking back on them now, i guess both looked a bit cheap in their own ways but i still prefer the cgi. maybe because i also liked the characters/story better, i really love the soundtrack and maybe just because i saw "paris" first. ;)

@ dog soldiers: i hardly remember anything about this one. all i do remember is that it was very dark, which was frustrating because i exptected some nice explicit gore but i couldn't see anything. i also remember not laughing (at least i think i didn't), not feeling excited about the story and... yeah, that's about it...

@ evil ed: LOL, i guess a lot of things can be funny if you're intoxicated? ;)
as for the "taste in gore" - i actually like both (which doesn't mean that i automatically like e.g. "hostel", which i thought was destroyed by the incredibly unsympathetic characters). i also like serious movies displaying realistic violence which i guess could be considered "surgical gore" (take e.g. "a history of violence").

@ fido: hehe... well... i guess you wouldn't make it gory to appeal to a broader mass ;)
i think the amount of people who enjoy comedic and gory movies is simply too small. why else would there be only about one great fun splatter movie released per year?
but... about fido itself... as far as i remember it does have a decent amount of gore? i think i was pleasently surprised considering the participating actors and the way it was advertised. i think what i didn't like about it, was that it just felt too slow sometimes. just because zombies are slow, it doesn't mean that story & camera should mimic that behaviour ;)

dont know if its already been said but STUDENT BODIES is one of the best horror comedies of all time and its 1981. way ahead of its time... if you can find it rent it or buy it. if not i saw a decent version being tossed around on torrents

also a good one i just saw recently was poultrygeist: night of the chicken dead

xD

I LOVED Student Bodies! My sister and I used to watch USA's Up All Night, and that was old standby for them (That, and Pandemonium. Oh, what fun!).
You are right. It was way ahead of its time. I would love to be able to have that on DVD.

"No, I just said 'Click'."

I've not read this thread completely, but how about some Troma films? Chopper Chicks in Zombie Town? Psychos in Love?
