Ok, this movie has some big publicity hype.
1) Sent for Venice competition, total lost.
2) Announced as a high hope for HK entry for Oscar. Also lost.
3) Sammi Cheng, the lead actress make a lot of publicity from rumours and her self made news and mysterious behaviour(she was famous for making news in Hong Kong) BUT we all know her acting is the worst in Hong Kong. The news out. No one seen it praised her in it but don't be surprised if Hong Kong will give her a best actress award because she "claimed" that she could not get out of the role for a few months after completion. Oh, what a smart lie !!
4) Stanley Kwan, once among the most highly praised directors from Hong Kong(together with Ann Hui) has been giving us flops since 1994 except for the average Lan Yu. Before that, he was one of the best director from Hong Kong.

Its not doing well in Hong Kong's boxoffice.
It's getting snarked on in popular culture columns like the South China Morning Post's City Seen. In last Thursday's edition, the following appeared: "Everlasting Regret ... it's not just the film title, it's how the audience feels leaving the theatre."
