The final scene (SPOILER)

Sebastian seemed like a pretty smart man who was able to outwit the crooks. So why oh why did he just end up back on the railway station after the police had interviewed him? He told the police he had escaped from some gangsters, so surely he could have begged the police to drive him to a different station in case the gangsters caught him? Alternatively, he could have kept back a few dollars from the parcel, changed it at a bank and paid for a taxi to drive him all the way back home.

I agree, in my opinion it would have made for a much more satisfying finish if Sebastien had gotten away with it and simply gone home. What happens next? How does he deal with the fact that he's now a multiple murderer? Is the money he got really life altering or is there a temptation to do it again?

I could have even seen a sequel dealing with these issues, possibly involving Sebastien's development as a criminal so he can revenge himself on the gamblers.

Good movie hindered by a rather stale and heavy-handed ending.

^ I agree, the film would of been more interesting if he lived at the end. it would of left us wondering what happens next?

I also had a problem with Sebastien not being more careful when he left the police station. I would of got a cab home or asked for a police escort myself. I also thought it was odd that the Police Inspector didn't put a tail on Sebastien after he left the police station.

Having Sebastien die at the end was a little heavy-handed. It's like the director was trying too hard to make the film bleak.

Just saw it. I imagine even if he had made it home he would have killed himself at some point. The end just took him out of his misery. He was dead the moment he went along with it.

I did hate that Sebastian was killed after all he went through, but agree that he would have had a hard time living with what happened. Glad his killer didn't get away with any money, but wish he would have gotten shot by the police while running away.

It would have been a lot better, if the guy just knocked him out and ran away with the bag, Sebastian rides away unconscious and the guy gets nothing but a few grocery items.

reply

I also wanted him to get away with it but thinking of it, he could not.

Even taking a taxi would have nailed him. (Where did he get the money?)

He mentioned he had escaped from the gangsters BEFORE they were acquainted with him. So, he could not expect to be protected from them by the police. Why would the gangsters come after a man they didn't know? And where would they come after him? How would a set of unknown gangsters from a remote area know which station to find Seb in?

Thus, he had no choice but to take his normal route.

However, he overestimated the intelligence of his killer who thought he would be carrying all that money in his bag.
