If you are a fan of the series, you should watch series 4. But the episodes become less interesting as the series progres. DO not get me wrong: there are a few episodes that are very good, just the majority is below the standard of the previous seasons.

I've watched the first four eps of season 4, and I have to say I'm not enjoying it as much as the first 3 seasons. So many changes have occurred when season 4 starts that I went back to season 3 to see if I'd missed an episode.

One thing was continuity with characters: when a character left or changed position, generally the character who took over that job would be either a) an existing character or b) a recently introduced character. There'd be an "overlap", if you know what I mean, between the new character for that job coming into the hotel and the incumbent leaving.

But season 4 starts with so many changes. A character gone and referred to in a way that indicates something significant occurred but we don't know what, and a couple of new characters who have far too much time spent on them and their history at the expense of everyone else. And one of these new, significant characters is just not very likeable.

If I didn't know any better (having watched seasons 1-3 over the last month before starting 4), I'd say the plots are simpler as well, and much less quirky. The show appears to have lost some of its sense of humour.

Anyway, if you have finally watched it, interested to know what you think.

I hate the fact that I've heard it ends on an unresolved cliffhanger.

We are just embarking on the sereies. Do you, or anyone else, have any advice as to where we should perhaps just stop watching? Is the end of Season 3 any more conclusive? Or could the final episode of S4 simply be skipped?

We truly HATE watching series only to be left hanging...

Season 4 was really weird as if they knew the series was losing viewers and tried some new stunts. Unfortunately these stunts included staging 'fantasy' scenes in practically every episode, the get round the piano for the sing song and the awful Bollywood number to name but two.

Either keep this as a straight forward series or something for children's pantomime but not both.

The cancellation of the series leaving the cliffhanger showed that it just didn't work.

Plus it was a cliffhanger between characters that the viewers only got a season to care about. And while that would be fine early on, when you have characters who have been there for 3-4 years, who cares about Sam and Jules' drama?

Yes, I agree with you about the unexplained character gone missing. Where did Jack go and why? Does it ever explain why he left? Please clarify if you know, thank you!

I agree it was not great. I love Tony, Gino, Ben and James; even Emily started to grow on me but they were not enough to carry it with the other characters and the story lines they were given.

Sam and Juliet have no chemistry

Mel is horrible even after the makeover

How can Juliet get upset with James and not give him the promotion for faking a funeral when she and Sam had just asked everyone to help fake a wedding to defraud a newspaper for money then blackmailed the photographer to keep from being caught??????

I love Tanya but she just doesn't cut it as head of house keeping in a hotel like that.
