"the crap he's doin nowadays" aren't HIS movies....the last movie he did was The Messenger....he may have produced or written movies in the past few years that were crap..but that is not his fault completely....i have complete faith in any film that he directs himself.

He has been working on an animated film for over 5 years. The fact that he has produced and written a bunch of films in the mean time is positive because he makes money that he needs to make his own films. Some of the films he wrote and/or produced were very successful (I have only seen a few of them so they may all be successful for all I know). Kiss of the Dragon worked great. Transporter was fun and inventive. Unleashed and High Tension got great reviews and I will see them as soon as they are out on dvd. Ong-Bak was an important step for Tony Jaa. Taxi (the original) was great fun and near perfect.

You have to remember that a writer/producer does not make a film and I can guarantee you that not a single of these films turned out like Luc Besson thought. Some better some worse, all different.

are you sure you're talking about the right movie? The turd with jason Statham in it

please tell me one, ANY one, single scene in that horrible piece of crap that wasn't done in some other, bigger, better film.

And then as a contrast list a dozen scenes that have been done in probably 15 other movies.

Let me ask you something what have you made? Hey just cuz the guy makes movies that do their jobs (entertain) doesnt mean you should knock him. He is obviously a success or else he wouldnt have been able to put out that many movies either producing/writing/directing. Let it be.

That's an interesting (and pretty valid) comparison.

Interesting also because when Lucas originally decided to make the 3 new (now prequel) star wars films he also mentioned (as documented in Vanity Fair article) the idea of WRITING the NEXT 3 in the series and asking OTHER directors to take the helm. One of the directors he mentioned specifically for (what would be) part 8 was... Luc Besson

reply

As far as I know, Lucas had never considered letting anyone direct the prequels but himself. Now for an interesting what if.................before settling on the director they got, both Steven Spielberg and David Lynch were asked to direct Return of the Jedi back in the day. Lynch turned it down and Spielberg was unable to do it.

Besson is a creative and brilliant director (and my favorite) and hopefully he'll make some more awesome movies like Leon,Nikita, and The Fifth Element. He has been producing some crap movies, for instance Taxi, but also some good movies. I really want him to get back to directing.

reply

"I think Besson should stop making money with these filthy, dull movies and start back the good old stuff he was doing years ago. Let's hope his new movie will be a real Besson! Léon, The Fifth Element, Nikita, The Big Blue, etc. are very far for the crap he's doin nowadays. It's too bad. He's the French George Lucas."

I guess he's just been biding his time regarding the other movies. I love the man's work. He is a genius and his older movies are all perfect. Just curious - any relation to Quentin Tarantino?? lol j/k
