Proof Russell Crowe should retire

I can see the rest of cast, plot, and directing sucking but this guy was suppose to make this movie. He just put the nail in the coffin. ZZzzzz...... I never liked him and this is proof that unlike wine he doesnt get any better as he ages.

I'm a master of fright, and a demon of light

reply

And this is proof that you should never start threads, because that isn't true. You already say you dislike Crowe, so of course you're going to find reason to criticise his performance here.

reply

He is a brilliant actor, who was not used appropriately here...the director should have a done a better job..

reply

I thought he did a good job. I was with him on every scene.

bo ur ma!

reply

I was too, I recommended the movie and watched it more than once. The only problem I had was Crowe looked older than his age, Affleck looked younger and I believe they were college roommates? I'm not sure on this though, maybe I'll watch it again!

reply

I loved him in this role. I thought he was fine. Nice to see a guy with a pot belly, long hair, a filthy car, and a great interesting job. Nice to know that in real life people like that have friends. And jobs. And brains. Russell Crowe pulled that off.

reply

Exactly! You don't like him anyway and the fact that he doesn't LOOK good in this one makes you look for vindication. The fact is, in this movie and "Body of Lies", both of which I saw in the same week on HBO India, he isn't exactly looking good but that suits the character he's playing.

YOU ARE WRONG PAL..SO LAME,check yourself!

reply

Yeah well, personally I thought Crowe was pretty good in this film.

When I said I wanted to be a comedian, they all laughed at me. Well, they're not laughing now!

reply

For me, Crowe made the film and kept me interested. He just sucks you into his character. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Completely agree. Was just channel surfing and was instantly drawn in because of Crowe. Totally believed he was that reporter. It was one of the better films I've seen in a long time.

Definitely agree with you two guys above. The movie itself was entertaining (though nothing revolutionary or special) but Crowe was pretty much the reason I left the channel on and finished the film. He really made the part believable and I was really impressed with his performance considering he played so many different roles so convincingly in the film (friend, reporter, mentor and seasoned veteran).

reply

Just watched this and completely disagree with the OP.

Like most of you I thought Crowe was excellent and really drew me into the film.

All right ramblers, let's get rambling!

reply

That was the character. Seasoned reporters tend to have a disheveled look. Russell Crowe has tendencies of changing his appearance depending on the role. He gained some weight for this role.

reply

The OP couldn't be more wrong. Crowe made the film - he was that reporter.

reply

I agree with everyone, the OP could not be more wrong. Crowe did a great job in this role, as he usually does, he's a world class actor. I think a lot of people equate good acting with over the top theatrics, and so in their minds if someone gives a performance that's subtle or doesn't consist of them screaming or weeping (or both in many cases), it's just not good. When in reality, the really memorable moments/performances of cinema are implied or inconspicuous (what I like to refer to as "iceberg" acting...where the majority is below the surface).

Crowe is an extraordinarily capable actor. He just needs to get back to doing great films like A Beautiful Mind. Stuff like this simply won't suffice. Again, very talented cast muddling through a conventional thriller here.

reply

Nuh, Crowe is not a good actor, he always uses the same tone and facial expression and is so one note it's insulting how famous he is. A beautiful mind was not a great film. Look at Les Mis or broken City which show how bad he can be, and watch Romper Stomper to see that he has always done pretty much the exact same role

reply

He gave a terrific job on this film.

People really dont see his brilliance.

reply

They don't see brilliance because it isn't there...

reply

Disagree with original post...

Crowe is a great actor...such a natural...I always enjoy watching him!

reply

And, as always happens with threads like this one, the OP has never again responded. LAME
