Why allow mormons to have their own state?

Why did the US government ever allow a "religion" to form it's own state. Out of all 50 states, Utah is the only one I know of that has a "religion" in control of practically every aspect of it's state government.

If any group of people deserve their own state, it's Native American's. This movie showed just one more injustice done to them. Here are these so called "godly" mormons using the Paiute indians as pawns in their scheme to murder a group of pioneers that had done no harm to them. I am sure if this had not been investigated closely, the Paiute's would have taken the fall for what happened.

What enraged me the most was that only one mormon was charged and executed for these murders, when it was obvious that many in their group had to be involved.

In Utah, (I am a Brit, by the way), they ALLOW non-mormon to be in the Goverment, Police, Schools and so on. The State were founded by the Goverment, not the Mormons. Mormon did ask for a Statehood. The U.S. Goverment has decided to call it Utah, and in Native American's language it means "Mountain Top". Funnily, it has fulfilled a passge from the bible. In the bible, it has said there will be the House of the Lord (Salt Lake Temple) on the Mountain Top (Utah) and the nations (foreign countries) shall flock into it (nowadays, millions of mormons from anywhere in the world has visited the temple). It's quite interesting. Also Utah is a miracle itself because before the pioneers arrived, the land was inhospitable and unsuitable to inhabit, but look at it now.

lol what a joke. What does that passage have to do with a mormon temple in Utah? LOL

reply

Your comment had fulfilled a prophecy by the bible and the mormons.

Thank you for your confirmation that the Church is true.

If you're unsure what passage in the bible about your comment, then you better look it up about Christ's parable. Only hard-hearted will never understand the deeper underlying message of the scriptures. What a joke, you say? Someone else in the bible has said the same thing to Noah when he was building an ark.

Actually...why not? Why shouldn't a group have a place to call their own? If that was so, and you had "issues" with them, then you could avoid them by staying out of their state!!! This could apply to gays, blacks, whites, Jews, etc.

reply

Exactly. Nothing in the US Constitution prevents a group of like-minded individuals, whether they are gay, Jewish, Muslim etc., from moving to a single State and dominating the local politics, government and economy. As long as the group in question obeys the Federal Constitution, US Codes and Regulations then a situation like that in Utah could happen in another State with another group.

What Federal law would prohibit all Muslims living in the US from moving to say North Dakota and electing fellow Muslims to every major political office in the State (which would certainly happen since the several million Muslim-Americans would vastly outnumber the 650,000 current residents of North Dakota)?

Well said.

If you don't like it, move! That's what I say.

You are very right, when you look at it the Mormon's control just about everything in the state. They control Coke, Pepsi, alcohol distribution and everything else they do not "partake" in. In a country that was set up with seperation of church and state why is a state nearly ran by the church? Kind of funny isn't it!

reply

[deleted]

no you just need to open your eyes to what is going on in your state

reply

[deleted]

Not true. Did you know that non-mormons are the ones that are controlling the Coke, Pepsi and alcohol distribution? I am NOT American and only went to Utah once!

I am aware that the politics in Utah are empowered by a combination of non-mormons and the mormons. And religion had nothing to do with it.

If you really think that Mormons are controlling everything, then there shouldn't be any pubs, coffees, and the sale of cola.

Mormons are willing to allow non-mormons to have bars there. Even a strip club!!! Are they fair? No?

The mormans founded the state originally as a seperate country. Which brings me to a question of how many U.S. States were countries first? I count 4. how many do you think?

what about hawaii? california was a seperate country for a few months while we were waiting to ratify the peace treaty w/ mexico.

i'll say third party reconition counts. you can dissagree

Utah was never a separate country, it was a Mormon run federal territory seeking statehood.

Utah was not allowed statehood until 1896 after they complied with federal law on polygamy.

The real question should be how many states were "real" countries, with a military, a Navy, and consulates to foreign nations, and that fought for their independence from a foreign power, like Texas was, not just a legal technicality on paper, for a few months.

The fact that you put the word "religion" in quotes the way you did shows an inherent level of bias that casts a shadow on the rest of your points.

Oh, also, I live in Utah, and the government here is not theocratic.

Why get enraged about something where the facts have been so twisted and distorted? Why allow lies to enrage you, or things you are ignorant about (things you don't know about) enrage you?
This movie, for example, twists truths so badly it's barely a work of fiction. I mean, the guy delivering the message to Brigham Young had barely arrived when the shootings happened. He didn't have time to get back in time.
Some don't get to tell their tale, but that doesn't mean you blame someone who history shows couldn't have had a hand in it even if he wanted to. That's how disgusting the lies are, the distortions are. (No, not saying Brigham Young wanted to have a hand in it, just showing how big the lies of this movie are in an attempt to tarnish a religion and it's leader versus showing some truth.)
And yet people hear these lies, and in their ignorance (lack of truth/knowledge) get enraged, which doesn't do them a whole lot of good either.
Sad what lies do...and the writer/director of this movie either didn't do his homework (incompetence) or chose to lie to people. That's a whole lot easier to prove than what may or may not have happened almost 200 years ago.
Don't worry, those who did the killings believe in God, so they have already been dealt with in a just way that only God can deal with them. Nothing you do now will even harm them, only "enrage" you over the director's lies. Move on with your life.
*sigh* Ignorance is the real enemy of society.
