INTERESTIN??????

What a great idea for a mini-series. however i don't understand why there would be Canada involment in the film when East Timor is so far away from Canada and many Canadians won't have heard of it.

reply

It's only that some of the filming is being done in Canada.

reply

No, it was filmed in Queensland. The lead female role is a French-Canadian UN worker who was in East Timor. That would be why Canada had some involvement it the show.

reply

True, it was all filmed in Qld. I believe that Canadian `interest' - along with a French-Canadian character - was about finding the $$$ to fund the project. It's the same old story, I'm afraid. The ABC no longer has the dosh to fund good quality Aussie drama. BIG shame..............

reply

It was a co-production with the Canadians.

Simply a matter of economics.

With a Canadian lead, it readily becomes marketable to two countries.

reply

yeah. im from canada and i love thish show. kinda sad though. althous people dieing. its on cbc here.

You hit the nail on the head there mate.

reply

Actually, the project originated in Canada -- one of the co-writers (who's also one of the producers) developed the story when an RCMP friend was posted to Timor as a UN Civilian Police Officer for the '99 ballot.

So much for the "money" theories.
