is anyone on this board actually timorese

just wondering if anyone here is from timor, and lived through any of the occupation or had family who lived through it

reply

yeah my parents are from timor...i was born in portugal and moved to australia when i was a couple of months old and i went back to timor in 2002 for the independence ceremony. My parents left timor before 1975 but my grandfather, aunties and cousins were there until the 80's and early 90's. Alex Tilman is my first cousin so if you know him you'll know what happened to his dad.

Thank your grandfather for us.
It was his generation that saved our Aussie diggers in WWII.
We owe East Timor big time.

I am Portuguese and had family in Timor. In 1974 they backed out along with 90% of the Portuguese there. When the 1999 crysis ocurred, a big friend of the family volunteered to go to Timor to help rebuild the Dili airport. She stayed there some years. I was a kid then, but my mother and I where supposed to go there for a couple of years because my mother was going to help in the rebuilding process, but we never did... It is my biggest regret. It would be "THE" life experience.
