Clutch and Coco

Ok, so I'm confused as to the relationship between Clutch and Coco. At first it seemed like Clutch was interested in Kay, but the way Coco and him interacted was as though they had a relationship as well. Coco even said to him "It will be nice to have our little girl home again." I also think Clutch tried harder to rescue Coco than Kay...So which one was it? Kay or Coco?

I think the two men were just friends - aquaintances, even - that were bound together because they 1) live in the same apartment building, and 2) both love Casey. Casey was probably friends with Coco when she lives with her dad before leaving for the Army. The two men felt uncomfortable around each other. Coco tries to touch Clutch's face (maybe looking for a reaction?) and Coco pulls back at his hand like Clutch's face was hot. He says, "You had a lash", like he needed an excuse to touch Clutch, and Clutch certainly didn't want Coco touching him. There were pictures on the bathroom mirrors of the three of them together with Casey in the middle, so it leads me to believe that its Casey bringing them together. Between the two of them, they have nothing.

I've got two good posts in me and I just wrote my third...

I think Coco and Clutch are lovers. Clutch gave me the impression that while he found Kay attractive, he was fighting not to feel any attraction toward her. The scene where Clutch goes out to see if he can get to the bar to rescue Kay, Coco say "Be careful out there sugar." What reason would there be for Clutch to be living with a gay guy? At the end SPOILERS when both he and Coco are dead, they are laying there as if in each others arms.

Wasn't Coco trying to get Clutch to talk to Kay? And you make it seem like the only reason to live with a gay guy is if you're gay. That's a bit ignorant no?

Did it ever occur to you that maybe it was wishful thinking on my part? :o)

My take on Clutch and Coco is this...

Clutch's wife died, and Coco was most likely a friend of the family, So after the wife dies he "consoles" Clutch. It may have been a one time thing or maybe lasted for a while but whatever they HAD was definately over. The last scene they are in together tells the story... Spoilers below

Coco even after bitten didnt immediately attack, and Clutch didnt Immediately KILL Coco either like he did with Kay. After Clutch realized he was bitten it seems as if they decided to die together. And they did. And they were in each others arms and covered by Caseys jacket. I dont think Casey died though.

SPOILER

That work?

In the end Coco's green kimono falls over Clutch and Coco laying below in the street. It fell from Clutch's daughter's hand and landed on top of them both, and the camera framed them like that for a while. That lent credence to this idea that they were partners at some point.

There was definitely love, even a family like bond there. Was their relationship sexual? Who knows. But it was obvious thought that he was a sort of gaurdian personality looking after everyone around him. Plenty of reason for coco to admire him.

Just watched this for the first time today (thanks Xfinity) and I'm pretty sure they're just friends. I also don't think they live together. Coco was just over helping out to prepare for clutch's daughter's return. Kay would have probably assumed they were a couple if they lived together. Even they are living in the same apartment, it's not unheard of to have a gay roommate.

Great movie. Whatever you might think of the horror aspecct, it captures a New York apartment building really well. Good soundtrack, too.

I agree, I thought they were friends when Clutch was married and then his wife died. (On the staircase, Kay had asked Coco about Clutch's wife and he said she was beautiful or something like that.) Coco helped to care for the motherless daughter and overtime I think Coco had fallen in love with Clutch but this was never reciprocated. I thought it was a sweet friendship but they did not live together. Clutch understood the attraction (although he was not gay himself) and was not put off by it.

IMHO.

I agree. Coco was in love with Clutch. Clutch cared about Coco but did not have romantic feelings towards him. I took it as Clutch knew Coco had feelings for him, but he didn't feel the same way. He felt responsible for him though and cared about him as a friend and family. He felt the need to protect him.

I think they established in the film that the infected have some sort of recognition for someone they had feelings for - the mother and the son and coco and clutch. Then again, Clutch had been bitten so they made it ambivalent if Coco was resisting attacking him for love or the fact he was now infected.
