One thing that bothered me

I thought the movie was pretty decent for not having much of a story. It was really well acted especially by Chazz and Channing. The only thing that really annoys me about this movie is that they have different actors playing the same characters after they are already grown. For such a realistic movie it kind of lost me having to believe that Shia would look like RDJ in 20 years. The worst was when Eric Roberts was supposed to be an older Channing Tatum. I know that jail is rough but nothing can change your appearance that awfully. Bottom line is that it would have been better just to use make up instead of different actors.

“nothing can change your appearance that awfully”
well ... my mommy uses to say it happens a lot sooner than we think...

anyway, I absolutely loved this movie. It just blew me away.
I found it one of the most compelling and moving stories I have ever seen on screen.
it was raw, gritty and amazingly true, with outstanding performances.
the whole film worked so perfectly for me that I cannot imagine it any other way.

You couldn't of put it in better words. This movie brought me to tears because it really hit home. Everything about it was my life. I didn't grow up in New York and I was born in 1981 but the story as a whole was me. Dead friends. Broken relationship with my father. Friends serving life in prison. Just a sad portrait of real life. I really don't understand all the hate for this movie. My favorite scene in the whole movie was when they were introducing everybody and the song trouble by cat Stephens was playing. Absolutely priceless. Those were me and my friends

what bothered me was the age gap between Rosario Dawson and Eric Roberts, weren't these kids suppose to all be around the same age?! there is a 23 year age gap between the two! i agree some of the actors who portrayed the aged characters were not very believable
