Best Performance In This Film

All actors were terrific in this film but in my opinion the best work came from Chazz Palminteri, Dianne Wiest and Channing Tatum.

Before this film i don't think i've seen Chazz Palminteri in any films, but after watching his performance in this movie, im gonna go out and rent some of his movies.

Im wasn't a big fan of Channing Tatum, as im not into these teeny bopper films, but after watching this film i can now say im a fan of his work. he was just fantastic in this movie.

I also enjoyed Dianne Wiest's performance...shame she had small roles, but a scene that stood out for me was towards the end where she and downey were sitting on the stairs and talking...reminds me abit of mystic river with Marcia gay-harden.

All well cast but these three for me stood out the most after watching it.

your actually serious? I thought Palminteri's role was horrible. No chemistry with Dito at all, and the fact that he acted like a retard about Antonio being a good kid was too brutal too watch. Definately one of his worst performances, watch A Bronx Tale...then again it helps if you have a Deniro directing and not a writer...

reply

Was he supppose to have chemistry with Dito? And we're talking about the actor, not the character. And the performance by the actor was great!

reply

I think that was the whole point. He wasn't supposed to have crazy chemistry with Dito. It was supposed to be a distant sort of relationship.

I'd have to give the Best Performance honor to either LeBeouf or Tanning. Both had striking and/or meaty roles, and both made the most of them.

Still, it's hard for me to see a Martin Compston movie and not walk away most impressed by Martin Compston, because Martin Compston is amazing. (If you haven't seen Sweet Sixteen and Niceland, YOU NEED TO.)

I thought he was great. He wasn't supposed to have chemistry with Dito. That was the problem between the two.

I would have to say RDJ... And my reason for this is, he doesn't do much in this movie, because its centered a lot around him when he was younger, but if you notice RDJ acts exactly as Shia LeBouf did as a kid in the movie... That was typical Shia with his mannerisms and twitches, but RDJ mimicked the way he twitched, acted, looked at people etc. to perfection. Was minimalistic in a sense but very good, a lot of people don't do anything close to that when playing an older version of a character.

reply

RDJ is one of the best actors around and its good to see him getting credit.

reply

i think channing tatum was good in this movie...i've pretty much liked all his movies so far, but this was on another level bc it wasn't just a teen movie.

but to reply to metalmilitia-6...i thought the way RDJ played the role was so good, i noticed right away how he copied shia's mannerisms and it worked perfectly!

Well said. RDJ was fantastic as always. I really enjoyed him in this role. Weist was great too. Her best scene was her monologue in the end where RJD also is amazing just by listening to her..

Hell, Dianne Wiest and Channing Tatum.

Does anbody else but me feel as though Frank the Dogwalker gave one of the best performances?

reply

I agree, I loved chazz and RDJ, but i was really really impressed by the dogwalker's performance

reply

He was great, I loved how he added some humor to the film. I really like that actor. (Anthony De Sando)

im with you about frank the dogwalker, aaaaawesome performance, very underrated due to his part being rather small. i started a thread about whether frank committed suicide or not. im 90% sure he did, but would love someone elses opinion about the matter.

It's too tough to pick a best performance in this movie. I think pretty much everyone gave a career-best in this, with maybe the exception of Dianne Wiest, who has given many career bests! Palminteri was amazing and Downey Jr. gave his most understated performance, so that had a lot of power to it. Great direction from Montiel for us to have so many amazing performances to choose from.

Yes, he was amazing. I'm going to go check out his imdb.com page and see what else he's done!

And here I thought I was the only one!!

reply

I thought Anthony DeSando as Frank the Dog Walker was clearly the outstanding performance in the film.

reply

Shia easily, but Channing Tatum and Robert Downey gave great performances as well

Best performance came from Shia: very intelligent and intuitive. He seriously put himself on the line (ie. the shower scene) and watching that scenes makes me cringe and freak out thinking whether I'd ever be brave enough to do a similar thing! Another beautiful moment was at the funeral when Antonio starts interrogating him. Awww..... awwww... no! Can't get emotional! Have to finish this post.

Melonie was also really sweet. She gave a very real performance, always watching Shia very closely and perfectly responding to his actions. They made a great camera couple.

Scott Michael Campbell was the best child-to-adult character cast, in my opinion. He took on his character type very well and I believed him every second. I looked him up on the internet after watching the film and was shocked to see this real and genuine character played by a man who looks so... sorry to say this... pompous in his headshot. DAMN HEADSHOTS! Just goes to show- don't judge an actor by their headshot.

Frank the dogwalker was AWESOME-
"Aeeeee! How loud is this freakin' city". Hahahaha!

Alright guys- that's all.
There were plenty of other good performances but lets stick to my top 3, eh.

What about Downey? His scenes had me chilled, especially when he bursts into his childhood home and tells his father he's taking him to the hospital. The emotions in his eyes, expression, stance...I was captivated by his every move. Plus, he always looked like he was on the verge of tears...his scenes were intense and touching.

1) Channing Tatum: excellent
2) Shia LaBeouf: one of his best (if you remove action flicks from the equation--as you should)
3) Chazz Palminteri: phenomenal
4) Robert Downey Jr.: He only really had the one great scene (the showdown with Chazz), but he pulled it off well
