Congrats to Lions Gate

I hope I'm not out of place here in wishing good luck to Braxton Pope and Andrew Weiner at SXSW!

With Lions Gate's Best Picture Oscar, hopefully they will pick up BONDAGE and put some of that formidable marketing muscle to work on this one.

Lions Gate would be a perfect distributor for this type of film. So would Focus Features. I've heard ruminations that these guys have met with several distributors before SXSW, but won't let them see the film - only read the script and see the trailer. Apparently even that has generated quite a bit of interest.

The producers (Braxton and Pope) have a first look deal with Lions Gate, so they have first dibs. I feel pretty good about it.

reply

First right of refusal, the way I understand it. I know a lot of people involved in this picture and aparently there are a few other distributors agressively showing an interest in the project.

reply

Isn't that the same thing?

reply

Looking that way.

reply

Well, hot dam. Wouldn't that be awesome? I can't wait to shout it from the rooftops if and when this pans out!

reply

There is no deal in place at this time between Lions Gate and the makers of "The Bondage".

Rumors.

reply

Hmm...the earlier post said "looking that way." Well, thanks for the update.

reply

There is a long journey between "looking that way" and a deal :)

reply

Oh, don't I know it. And even then...just because a deal is signed doesn't mean that it will be distributed. Or stay with the same company. I've seen all the above just in the last six months.

I guess nothing is really ever certain. But your updates are definitely appreciated, as you've been much more forthcoming than others.
