How to end it?

Will they take it until the last one is on his/her deathbed? Michael Apted, who is 15 years older than his subjects isn't likely to make it that far. The participants view of life at it's end might be interesting but that would be the most intrusive of all. If the original concept was to examine the impact of class distinctions on their lives, I would say that that's been achieved. Maybe 49 Up is enough?

56 Down: Apted machine-guns all of his subjects and finally ends the series.

I asked the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

I love the series, but your comment serious made me LOL

Reality TV has ruined this series as it has made the participants become very cagey - they are more aware of the media and feel manipulated. That's their right, Im not sure I'd like to open my life like that, but it does mean that the series looses it's candidacy and thus becomes pointless

Probably what will happen is that as they age, at each installment there will be a few who have died since last time. They will report that so-and-so died 3 years ago, and we just never see them since their last appearance.

People that are very ill or dying when it's time to film again may simply stop choosing to participate. If they do choose to participate, then it's not intrusive as it's their choice. It will be interesting to see what people do.

It's true that the original concept was to examine the effect of class, but it certainly has evolved to be something much bigger, an examination of life itself. So I hope it continues, and I'm sure Michael Apted has made plans for who will take over after he dies.

The original point has been achieved, but the new point it evolved into hasn't been achieved yet (Showing people through all phases of life etc).

Someone has to continue the project after Apted dies because it's come so far. However it looks like more will drop out or reveal fewer personal details (or die) as time goes on. The international Up series will clearly go on after well after Apted.

I see it going on until they are all dead.

I imagine when one dies they will just interview their family about their death, to sort of give a memorial/tribute to their life, then forget about them in the remaining films.

I suspect Apted will appoint a successor.

Although, I honestly couldn't see it going on if, say, 10 of the participants were dead, and the remaining 4 in their 90s. But who knows?

Maybe ending at 77 would be good. It would at least stick with the 7 motif.
