Any word on why he dropped out?

I think Apted should have at least mentioned Peter again, and perhaps give an update although there is no footage.

I saw 49 Up last night and once again Peter was not mentioned and I was thinking that people who watched 49 up and have not seen any of the other films don't even know about Peter.

Hopefully Peter will come back for 56 up.

But that's probably the way Peter wants it, don't you think? He obviously was hurt by the publicity he received for his comments. At least now he has 21 years distance; If we got photo updates & other info, then the jerks who raked him over the coals in the first place (or their replacements) would be able to focus attention anew on him. Why put him through that just to satisfy our all-too-human desire to be nosey parkers?

If Apted wants him to come back to the series, he's handling it the right way, by respecting Peter's privacy. Symon also opted out of one of the films, which Apted also "ignored" (on film anyway), and he came back once his life was in a place where he was ready to put himself on display.

Do you remember Neil's schoolfellow from Liverpool? The one who became a teacher? He is Peter.

When 56 Up is made, I would love to hear about his new career and his life since age 28. The Up series is such a unique and important project, and means so much to so many people.

If nothing else, Peter might consider that, if he participates in the project again, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their children would have an incredible, permanent, filmed document of Peter's thoughts about his life and times.

I also hope Charles will quit being so difficult and come back to the project, especially since he made film his career.
