The Mall With No Security

Here's this nice, big mall and its only "security" is one corporate security guy and a young man about 25 on some kind of work/release program. No uniformed security at this mall - at all! It's only one of the more preposterous things about this movie. It could have (emphasis on "could") been a good movie, but the plot holes big enough to drive a train through and the awful (and I mean AWFUL!) ending ruined this one for me.

Plot holes? Hmm. Have you watched the movie Volcano, with Tommy Lee Jones? Briefly, a volcano erupts right in the middle of downtown Los Angeles (remember that earthquakes in LA are caused by plate tectonics, not volcanic activity). Hence, if you believe the plot of the movie Volcano, you are liable to believe anything. Yet, Volcano was a very credible and well-made movie, no?

This is exactly the case with the movie Surveillance. Motion pictures are based on a "temporary suspension of disbelief." They are not facts. The point is, is the story credible while you watch it? I believe it is. You believe it is not. Let us accept both points of view.

That really bothered me too. I can suspend my belief that a man can turn corpses into mannequins but not in a large-scale mall with a single security staff member, who moreover appears to work both the day and night shifts, evenings and weekends. It wasn't a bad movie, but throwing in a few more guards would have helped quite a bit.

I didn't have the money to hire more actors to play security guards.
