Matthew Did A Wonderful Job In This Movie

I loved Matthew in this movie, Im not sure if this is the 1st movie he's been in or if it's the 1st movie he was the lead role but it's my favorite movie of his.

I see by your profile you've been on IMDB for 2-1/2 years, so I imagine you most likely know how to check an actor's filmography. In any case, if not, here's the link. Matthew has actually been in 16 movies, 6 of which were leading roles: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001612/ .

And yeah, he was fabulous in this -- let's hope he wins an Emmy or a Golden Globe.

I couldn't disagree w/ you more on Matthew's performance. I found him to be overly sentimental with the kids and almost babying Shameika. Although this was based on a true story, I have a hard time beleiving a teacher with the personality of Ron Clark as portrayed by Matthew Perry would get the respect of any kid living in central Harlem.
By the way, it was overtantly blatant why Tayshawn had a foster parent who was white. Because black people never hit their children!

Here's what Ron Clark himself had to say when he met Matthew on the set of the film: "I asked Matthew why he decided to take on the role, and he told me that when he read the script he had tears in his eyes throughout the entire story. I could tell he was sincere, and I instantly felt at ease with him portraying me in the classroom."

Indeed a very good job of Matthew :)

The movie was just on TNT. The title of this thread says it all. Some scenes did have Matthew Perry as Matthew Perry (i.e. the rap, lol), but most of the movie was a Matthew Perry we've never seen before. You could really feel his emotions when he expressed them. Like when he slammed the desk, I jumped and felt really weird because Matthew was really mad and I couldn't believe it. And when Matthew was holding Tayshawn in the alley, it almost brought me to tears. So I really enjoyed his performance in this movie. I think he should take on some more dramatic roles, because he's already gone down the comedy route and he has some hidden talent to explore.

Kool hand luke... WHAT?! "By the way, it was overtantly blatant why Tayshawn had a foster parent who was white. Because black people never hit their children!" Gosh, do you have severe mental problems?

reply

Yes, this was a wonderfully touching movie. I watched it three times on TNT, and I loved it.

Could he win an Oscar for this...he deserves one!! But didnt know wetheer he would "qualify" for a nomination?

reply

He definitely got nominated for a Golden Globe and a SAG Award. I'm not sure of the qualifications of he Oscars, but hopefully he'll win something!

Since its a t.v. movie he cant be nominated for an oscar

That's a real shame! It's an amazing movie, it helped me out a lot!

I KNOW!! HE WAS AWESOME. I loved the story, the acting and I cried. it was cool.

I watched this movie today at work ( I work in a video store ). I wasn't expecting it to be anything other than ordinary, I mean the storyline is pretty worn out, but I am a fan of Matthew's so I decided to give it a go and I couldn't believe it - I found myself choking back tears on a few occasions!? Matthew's performance was very sincere and the kids were great too. I know this kind of story has been done many times before, but for some reason this one just felt really REAL.

I thought he was a good choice for the role until I saw the movie--and then I knew he was PERFECT for it.

I couldn't agree more with ChasingTheDragon: it felt real, it didn't feel like a hollywood set-up of an 'inspirational' movie like so many others ( sorry for my english):-). Someone suggested he should get an oscar for this...lol...I'm not saying he wasn't great. He's surely growing as an actor and I see him winning an oscar in 5-10 years but now? That's a little wishfull thinking.

I have seen some of his films and find he is a good actor and show he has witt in them. However in this one as the teacher Ron Clark I found he had showed more charm and played the teacher wonderfully, his acting I think went up a few knot for me. I am a fan of his anyway and I am hardly ever disappointed in what he has done so far, compere to some actors. I hope he get the chance to do more series film as I think he will do well in whatever he is in.

reply

I agree. He's underestimated to but hope he will get a lot of dramatic/ more serious roles in the future. I'm confident he will, especially since his critical appraisal for his role in The West Wing and Studio 60

Just watched it.

Absolutley great, and Matthew's acting is great. He became one of my favorite actors.

Just watched it when it was on the Hallmark channel at 10pm today. I was really tired and have been wanting to sleep at 8 but I waited til 10 and watched. I really can't believe how good this movie was! I'm so awed by it and I think I'm a bit more inspired in studying. Matthew sure did well in this movie! I've seen several of his movies and this one is a lot different. This may be one of his best movies I think :)

This past weekend I had the most wonderful pleasure of spending a weekend with Mr. Clark and his teachers at his school in Atlanta.

Friday night, we watched the movie with him. My first thought was that Matthew Perry didn't have anything on the energy that the real Ron Clark possesses! When I commented on it to Mr. Clark, he told of how he had to "pull" what he got out of Matthew during the President's Rap. Mr. Clark has WONDERFUL rhythm-look it up on YouTube. Matthew Perry, not so much!

He also said there was no gum jar :). A really great movie however, and if you ever have the chance to visit his school, JUMP ON IT!
