first of all ur a wanker, secondly try saying that in england

reply

[deleted]

firstly, its not "soccer" its "football" it was invented by us brits, and the americans stole the name from us.

secondly, your "american football" envolves a bunch of men running around wearing body armour, which another sport robbed from us (rugby) except we dont use body armour like american pussies.

thirdly, football, is the most popular sport in the world and can be played more or less anywhere, all you need is a ball, unlike americans who need loads of unnecessary crap like cheerleaders, body armour, tickertape, half time shows and all that bulls**t.

and fourth, id love to see any american go into an english pub when england are beating whoever 3-0 and say "soccer is a stupid sport" you would just get mauled.

i rest my case.

Man...I love American football vs. football arguments.
Reminds me of the South Park episode cripple fight.

So many ignorant arguments on both sides. Its quite amusing.

Soccer, and I'll call it soccer cause I am American (btw, how did we "steal the name" you never even used?)..anyway, soccer is ahrdly a boring sport. It is a game that never stops and where amazing creativity is always possible. If you think soccer is boring, quit watching the MLS and check out the EPL.
Yes, I am American. And yes, American soccer sucks. I won't even watch it.
Thank Christ for England!

And seriously plinny, you don't know what the hell you are talking about. First of all, the topic starter, while obviously retarded, never even brought up American football. Why is that always the first knee jerk reaction when someone says soccer is boring? How do you even know the guy is American?

And all this instant "say that in England and watch you get your ass kicked" is such an ignorant comment. Yeah...lets just jump right into the violence again. And you wonder why so much of world looks at soccer fans as useless, under educated hooligans. And likewise, I would like to see any of you bad ass Brits walk into a bar in Oakland and tell all the Raiders fans that they are American Pussies. You wouldn't get mauled....you'd get beat the **** down. Hell...walk into a gay bar and yell out "FAG!". Walk into a bar full of blind folks and make a Helen Keller joke. Like walking into any place full of one type of person and talking smack about them won't get your ass kicked. Do you even consider logic when you type?

And I grew up in Ohio and California. We used to play American football all the time in the street or any feild of grass we could find. And all we brought was a....wait for it.....football! You act like every single game of American football is played in a stadium or something. Just like folks gather for pick up soccer games, people do the same playing American football. Are you that daft to think otherwise...well, of course you are. The words were typed here by you. Dee..dee..dee...you r sofa king we todd ed.

And yeah...all Brits hate American Football. That is why whenever the NFL brings a game over there its an instant sell out. Same thing here in the US when a European team comes over. In the past two years, I have tried to get tickets to see Chelsea and Real Madrid play here....I would have had an easier time getting tickets to the moon.

Not to mention the US has a HUGE hispanic population that watches soccer like crazy. But you don't even take them into consideration when you blast you hasty generalization on America. trust me, they are as mad about soccer as you Brits.

You knuckleheads can feed the retarded trolls and fight about soccer vs. American football all day.
Me?
I got up this morning, fixed breakfast, watched a live broadcast of Manchester United beating Chelsea to move up the table and over take Man City (YES!) and then I switch over to watch the Pittsburgh Steelers work over the 49ers (YES AGAIN!).

Anyway, you helped me kill 15 minutes at work with all the retardness in this post. Thanks for the laughs y'all!

I love English sport, movies, music, and culture. And I thank the heavens that you all invented the beautiful game. I just wish an educated English person would defend it against the retards like the topic starter.
Not people who don't actually say anything about the sport. Seriously...not one of you tools even said anything about soccer.
And you do realize that you all sound like that "Stupid American" stereotype you are all raging against so hard? Bang your chest. Ignore the topic at hand. Eat raw meat. Kick someone's ass.

hahaha....you have been wall o' text'd.

in reply to amsyco13, i was merely making a statement that is fact, football was invented in england many many years ago, and rugby was invented in england many years ago aswell, and them some american decided to combine the two sports and added all the unnecessary body armour and simply named it football. thus claiming they invented "football" considering that they run holding the ball for pretty much the whole game, it defeats the object. all i was trying to do was make the idiot who started tht post realise that "soccer" is not boring, i doubt he has ever been in the situation where his team has been winning in an important match and the atmopsphere in a pub can be a highly enjoyable one. i myself do enjoy "american football" aswell as baseball and basketball which i watch whenever i have the chance. i wasnt slating american football at all. and in reply to your statment about man utd beating chelsea and overtaking city, i see you have the sense to support one of the greatest english football teams there has ever been, myself beeing a lifelong man utd fan.
anyway, rant over, its nearly 2am here and im hungry and tired so food and sleep is needed.
peace out.

Fair enough plinny.
After I posted this, I actually sat down and watched a rugby game.
I don't know if it was live or recorded.
It was France vs. Ireland and France destroyed them.
And in all honesty, I do not see a real connection between American football and Rugby. I give all due...mad RESPECT to Rugby players for being tough. I saw a guy break his nose, wipe off the blood and keep playing.
But the boby on body impact in Rugby doesn't seem to be the same as in the NFL.
I Rugby (and I have only seen a few games, so this is from a newb's perspective) the players all seem to be pretty close, so the impacts don't seem so harsh. The collisions in the NFL just get nasty. So the padding is necessary. Otherwise a game would take 7 hours to play because there would be so many injuries. You don't really see a guy take a 10-20 yard run up and launch full force into a guy jumping into the air to catch a ball. And then see that receiver spin in the air like a helicopter blade and land on his head. Again, I saw one game. So maybe this does happen. Actually, it'd be kind of cool if it did.
But I agree, those rugby guys are tough. It was fun to watch.

And I'll tell you....I would kill a puppy in front of my mother for a chance to see Manchester United play live. Hell, I would do that to sit in a pub and watch a match in Manchester. It sucks living in a country where a very small amount of people follow the EPL. But we got Fox Soccer Channel, so we get games every week.

And it looks like we can all agree that the topic starter is a tool.

On a side note, Clive Owen was interviewed in Playboy this month and he says that he is glad America has never gotten serious about soccer because we would dominate it like we do all other sports (seems he has never watched the winter olympics). But I disagree. Americans will never catch up to other countries who have such a rich and long standing tradition in the game and have soccer running through their viens.

"...when england are beating whoever 3-0"

Who are you beating 3-0? You cant even beat Croatia at home! And now that you've got Capello you think you're gonna win titles? Please. Lucky Sven got you as far as you could go. You've got the best leage though, i'll give you that much. I'm a gooner myself so i see as many premiership matches that i possibly can. The EPL's probably lightyears ahead of any other league, except maybe La liga.

By the way, good luck in the Euro '08!

Oh, that's right, you didn't qualify.

Sweden ftw. Zlatan and Elmander = unstoppable.

reply

Americans hate all sports they aren't good at. Football for example, but also Formula 1. Football is the next best thing to sex and I can't wait for Euro 2008 to begin. Think of all the great teams that will play: France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland... It's gonna be a hot summer for all football fans around the globe. Too bad the English didn't qualify, but I will cheer for Oranje!

reply

Dutch? You guys definitely got one of the most entertaining and talented teams in the world. Europe's version of Brazil.

reply

That right, I'm from the Netherlands. And thank you for the great compliment Greatgoogamooga!

reply

typical american..

It´s boring because there aren´t cheerleaders and results like 80 - 70 -_-

reply

The original poster needs to shut up about how much he hates soccer. And plinny1984 needs to shut up about american football. plinny1984, I appreciate you sticking up for football but when you called american football players pussies because of all the padding you crossed the line.

american call it soccer becouse they suck!!

OP SHUT UP.

reply

wow man; thats pretty clever. how old are you? 5?

reply

No sport is stupid, only people. If you're going to whine about how the players just kick the ball, that they can't use their hands.. Well, that's part of the challenge. One convenient thing taken away to add to the challenge. But yes, a 1-0 score is actually pretty thrilling! It just makes it obvious how hard it is to score a goal. Being aware of that, it's actually pretty exciting to see who actually scores!

Erm, I have a feeling I shouldn't care...

reply

I have to say though, that a 1-0 result can be boring at times, but it's how these games come about to the final scorelne that is badass. I've seen games that go 4-3 in football and that is the equivalent in intensity to a 21-23 american football game.

good post though link. there are only stupid people in the world and every sport has its thrilling parts, otherwise NO ONE would watch it.

and to all the american hating people out there, grow up. America is not some place filled with red meat eating, "pigskin" throwing, we're the best and we can kick your ass people. this country is so incredibly diverse it's practically like a small example of the entire world. I know more than my fair share of people who love watching football and call soccer football, even though they are american (I call it football just because I respect the game enough not to call it the dorky ass word soccer. because let' face it, it is a really gay name for the game).

football is more popular and respected here than most people would think and honestly people, you need to come to the U.S. and actually spend time here before you go stereotyping it. (and ignore the TS, he's a *beep* twit).

reply

Soccer is not a boring sport it is the best game in the world to play and it is the most exciting game to play i highly recommend it to you.

reply

I don't hate america, I watch alot of american movies/tv etc but rarely watch american sports, and I just can't get into the american football. I just don't get the appeal of it while I love association football and enjoy rugby league (as opposed to rugby union). If an american might care to share what is the real appeal of american football, a game which seems too slow and overly technical to me, I'd listen.

reply

To the OP... have you ever tried playing football? have you ever been to an actual professional game and experienced the buzzing atmosphere? probably not otherwise you wouldn't have made such a bulls*** post. Kicking the ball around without using your hands is part of the challenge and involves skill, i'd like to see you go and attempt to score a goal from 30 yards out or dribble the ball past 4 players without getting tackled. Also the close scorelines adds tension and drama to the sport, much more exiciting then the big score repetitive games you see in American Football.
Now with American Football, i'm not going to diss it because I actually respect the players, because behind all the padding, there is still stamina and strength involved, even with the padding on some of the tackles made in the game must be pretty painful!

Anyways there my two pence worth... ;-)

TO the people here debating about americans using the Term "soccer" instead of "football".

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Where_did_the_term_soccer_as_opposed_to_football_originate

The link basically tells you about the term "soccer".
The name "football" has been around since 1860's which described any game where you used your feet.
America called the game "football" up until around the 1940's

Have a read.

LOL. I like soccer even though I suck at it. I think its a 'cool' sport, it makes people go crazy. "Sports are boring" No, they are only boring only if you don't like sports. By the way, yes you can't use your hand otherwise it would have been called foot/hand ball. See there's rules for every sports. Yes it is kind of stupid if you think like the OP, playing with all these rules. You can't touch it, omg hand ball!, penalty.....build a wall. It's just a sport. Soccer is like one of the easiest and the safest(if that's a word, im not sure) with no threat to your life. All you need is the skills. Which I don't, unfortunately.

Do I really look like a guy with a plan? You know what I am? I'm a dog chasing cars

its just an opinion why are you arguing about it, i dont like waterpolo but dosnt mean its a bad game, however the good thing about soccer is it world appeal the world cup is an unrivalled tournament which unites the entire world, were as "american football" is for mainly americans.

reply

How is it boring?

Because you cannot use your hand? If anything, that makes the sport MORE harder. It's anything but easy or boring. If the damn sport was easy, there would be more goals scored don't you think?

Let us see you play a full game. I'd like to see how you look after the game. S|hit, I doubt you'd even last that long.
