security officer?; guards carrying guns?

as far as I know, prison guards' uniforms say corrections officer, or department of corrections; not security officer. also, in what prison system do corrections officers walk around with shotguns and beretta 9-mm pistols? as far as I know, prison guards do not carry sidearms. this is because inmates could take the gun from the guard, as we see in the film. does anyone care to offer an opinion on this topic? I'd be glad to hear what people think about this.

That was exactly the very first thing I noticed in this film. It was very annoying and distracting. The corrections officers didn't even have badges, just badge shaped patches. Lots and lots of mistakes in this film, including the way CDC would handle the situation. I could go on, but why bother? Another piece of trash indie film.

And how could simply touching blood infect you? And how could a man be convicted while he's infected and live all the way to get into the prison? Unless you haven't noticed, this film worries about the finer details.

Touching the blood kind of makes sense as the infection could be absorbed through your pores and into your blood stream. This was the film Beyond Re-Animator should have been.

Sweeny(Criss Anglin) in the movie had told a newbie guard there was a really bad riot 4 years earlier which could explain for the guards having access to and even carrying weapons.

if this *beep* was this infectious it would have been spreading all over the place before the guy when to prison. The cops that arrested him had to have gotten blood on them, them zombies that were at the house they were just chillen there before homeboy shot them up, this movie could have been good if they gave a damn.

You have no problem believing that the zombies are real...but you question the carrying of the weapons by the officers? I think you just broke my irony meter. :)

Prison guards do have access to firearms. Usually revolvers, shotguns and rifles. Most common are Smith & Wesson revolvers in .357 Magnum, 12 gauge pump action shotguns and rifles such as the AR15 or Mini 14. These are not carried behind the walls unless there is a serious disturbance. They are used by tower officers, outside perimeter rovers and for transporting prisoners. The only prison I ever worked at with eretta's was a federal facility and at that time we were very well armed.

For a maximum security prison it sure was easy to gain access - and only one rolling gate? Guards carrying weapons around within reach of the inmates? And if the infection spreads so quickly, how do you account for the fact that someone isn't sent to a max prison until convicted. How long did the trail take if he was found guilty and sentenced, but still had not gone over yet?

Sorry I'm responding so late (3 years) to your original post, but this movie is STUPID!!!!! No one uses Security guards. All Prisons are run by the State Department of Corrections or Department of Prisons. They are PEACE OFFICERS of the state, just like State Troopers, they are are not PRIVATE like Security guards.

No, Guards would NOT have firearms within GRABBING distance of inmates. That was retarded. Guards only have guns in kill boxes and guard towers or the wall. All far out of the reach of inmates. This movie was stupid.

I was angry since I'm a filmmaker and I wouldn't have been so damned CHEAP as the Asylum. I would have rented authentic Prison guard uniforms rather than go on the Cheap and get Private Security uniforms from the local SURPLUS store. Yeeesssh. I hate the ASYLUM. They always insult their viewers.

It's an Asylum movie: we're lucky the guards aren't just wearing T-shirts with "Guard" written on them in Magic Marker . . .
