Why did Oldman agree to be in this movie? (spoilers)

I kept waiting for some sign, some indication that the movie is really good, to discover why Gary Oldman, a revered actor who can choose to be in almost anything he wants, would agree to be in this movie.

I never saw the reason.

It was an okay movie, much like others who are similar. People in the woods, having altercations or being hunted by the local wackos. Deliverance comes to mind (but Backwoods isn't nearly as good as Deliverance).

The movie also missed the mark in not giving the girl, and interactions with the girl, more of a part.

I also got tired of the supposedly good people repeatedly making mistakes, like staying behind alone in the house without a weapon, staying at a local house on your trek because you're wet and tired (even though the bad guys are after you and know everyone in the area), not immediately going to the police with the girl, etc., etc.

Then there are the obligatory naked women scenes, meaning it's a movie targeted to young men. A summer movie, I guess. Interesting how a man rapes a woman and no part of his skin is even showing, while the woman is shown in her full glory. I'm guessing the suits were men, as well as the producers and director.

In the end, I wouldn't be suprised if Oldman regrets this movie. Maybe he needed the money. As Michael Caine said, after winning an award for a wonderful movie, that being an actor means doing a lot of crap much of the time so you can afford to do a good one now and then.

Not sure I understood about the girl. So...she was malformed because she was the offspring of the main bad guy and his sister? Which is why he had to hide her? So the rest of the townspeople wouldn't know, or guess, about her? But I'm not sure if that was the story on the girl.
