I'm perplexed by some of the things you are, but I think or know the following:
At the end, I'm not sure who or what Norman shot. I thought he fired into space, but then I thought he may have hit both the girl and the head bad guy, killing both. I think he was really mad because all the deaths were unnecessary because the girl didn't NEED to be rescued, really. The girl loved the head bad guy, who was her father.
Not sure if the girl died. It's possible Norman just fired at the air.
What old man? You mean the head bad guy? He wasn't old, really, unless you're 25. He was middle aged, I think. I THINK - but am not sure - that he was the girl's father. The girl was the offspring MAYBE of the head bad guy and his own sister. So he hid her away, for her own protection? I THINK that was the deal on that.
The head bad guy made it clear at the end that "she is mine."
I THINK the girl was locked up for her own protection, because she was malformed and otherwise deficient, being the offspring of the head bad guy and his sister, an incestuous relationship? I THINK that was the implication. Maybe the townspeople would've put the girl away. So he hid her.
I don't know why Oldman was in this film. Maybe he needed the money.
