Lets just play a small game.. Who would you cast in the Remake of this Epic? No, not talking about this particular "Altered" Remake based on Mumbai's Underworld Scene.. Am talking about the complete Remake with the original Characters and Storyline) Although I do believe that'll be a bad idea, but thats why its just a game ;)
Jai Veeru Gabbar Singh Thakkur Baldev Singh Basanti Radha Sambha Maussi Imaam Saaheb (originally by AK Hangal) Ahmed (originally by Sachin) Soorma Bhopali (originally by Jagdeep) HariRam Naai (originally by Keshto Mukherjee) Angrej Ke Jamaane Ka Jailer (originally by Asraani)
This could be fun if more people took part, but then I doubt that...
Well is a too late for any of our view to be taken into account but lets do this ne way- Ok wen ever me and my friends talked about what it would be like to remake an old hindi classic like Pyassa, Devdas, and Sholay we were only joking around and never actually thought it will happen, but I have to admit I was very impressed with the casting of Devdas , so here is to hoping that Sholay will pleasantly surprise me too. But if I had my way….
Abhishek Bachchan or Hrithik Roshan or Akshay Kumar as Jai Saif Ali Kahn as Veru Manoj Bajpai as Gabbar Sing (only because he is meant to be young not 62!!) Dharmendra or Amitabh Bachchan as Thakur (just for the sake of novelty so that we have someone from the original cast) Rani Mukherjee or maybe MAYBE Esha Deol as Basanti Rani Mukherjee or Kajol (in a comeback role) as Radha
The others as far as I am concerned can be anyone of course I am not saying that this is a perfect casting by any means, just that based on the previous works they have done and certain chemistry that they have with their co starts they have a chance of making the movie work. And the more I think about it I am forced to just trust RGV, (although I am getting annoyed with the amount of gangster movie the guy is making try some different types dude! Naach was a great breath of fresh air). He knws his field well I am sure he will make a got casting choice and I am also sure it wont be a direct remake, he will probably just take his inspiration frm Sholay like he did with Sarkar and Godfather.

i dont understand why r all so upset with the remake of sholay , when people can make remakes of clasics like devdas, pyaasa, don , umrao jaan m no body had any complaints . n why for ramu ke sholay , pata nahi ,
if i were remakin sholay i wud cast Jai - abisheik bachan Veeru - salman khan Thakkur - dunno will come back to that 1 Basanti - rani mukherjee Radha - Tabu Gabbar Singh - ...... at this point i wud realise there is no1 in the world who could do justice to the role and any attempt to do so wud hav film fans committing suicide and amjid khan turning in his grave at the mess we made of his mosr memorible (and most superb) role/performance. thus i wud dismiss anythought of creatin a remake and go watch the original and marvel at its greatness
y does every1 want esha deol to do basanti??? she can't act like her mother... on fact esha deol CAN'T ACT
here is my main cast...
Jai.... Abhishek Bachchan(like papa like son) Veeru.... Akshay Kumar(he is so cute when is being funny) Basanti.... Rani Mukerjee(she will be perfect) Radha.... Kajol(just want her toact again a la kkhh) Gabbar Singh.... Amjid Khan(i m sorry.... the only person who can do this role is him... maybe they could CGI him in like gollum)
First things first...Although Ram Gopal Varma boasts of an enviable resume as a film director and I am a big fan of his movies, the entire idea of remaking "Sholay" comes as a rude awakening to me. The original "Sholay" is a cult classic and has laid the basis of innumerous hindi films for years to come; remaking it with a different storyline is a bit tooo gutsy. Anyways, my ideal cast would be:
Jai: Sanjay Dutt Veeru: Akshay Kumar Gabbar Singh: Manoj Bajpai (although Amjad Khan's performance was unparallel) Thakur: Anil Kapoor (definately not Mohanlal, who has been cast) Basanti: Rani Mukherji Radha: Kajol.
Does anybody know about Amitabh Bachchan being cast in a movie called "Big Bazaar"? Well anyways, i dunno about casting but i think that the Sippy's shouldn't give RGV such a hard time. i know most of u all agree that this is a bad movie, but in the end when it gets made half of us will go see it. Anyways the Sippy's should just give RGV the rights to make the film, because we all know that you cant top the classic, but RGV isnt trying to, he just wants to make his interpretation. Just like "Sarkar" was an adaptation of "The Godfather". Just let RGV make his movies. but hmm if i were to cast
Jai: Abhishek Bachchan or Akshay Kumar Veeru: Sunny Deol Gabbar Singh: The real son of Amjad Khan (he looks way too much like Amjad) Thakur: Amitabh Basanti: Kajol Radha: Rani Mukherjee
RGV flopped with his cast. Amitabh to play Gabbar Singh?! Gabbar Singh was Jai and Veeru’s age, not their Granddads! And Mohit Ahlawat to play Jai?! Who is he to fill Amitabh’s shoes? Further more, who the hell is he? I have come up with the cast below (with reasoning), considering the original 1975 was the cream of the crop of the 70's, I tried to assemble a cast worthy in our time to uphold such a film.
Gabbar Singh - Nana Patekar/Shahrukh Khan
Amjad Khan was the bad guy you loved to hate. Although he was a the villain, he was the hero of the film (most memorable character). People who had auras like that in my view are Nana Patekar (‘Parinda’/’Shakti’) and old school Shahrukh Khan (‘Baazigar’/’Darr‘). Actors who are at the top of their game can only attempt to fulfil Amjad Khan’s shoes. Wouldn’t it be a good surprise or shock to see SRK get his psycho on in such a film?
Thakkur Baldev Singh - Jackie Shroff
Jackie Shroff looks like that Baldev Singh kind of guy. That sincerity maturity allows him to uphold that leading role. What about Rajnikanth? Lol. Same hair and moustache as Baldev Singh!
Veeru - Bobby Deol/Akshay Kumar
I would've said Saif Ali Khan, he is lively, comical, but is he that action hero? The only real physical actors are the new wave of stars, like John Abraham, Hrithik Roshan, etc. Who I feel cannot uphold such a character. The Deol brothers are the answer to the assets of the character, Sunny being too serious, so the obvious choice - Bobby Deol. Also he looks like Dharmendra, no? I mean one of the reasons they chose SRK as 'Devdas' was because they thought he had a resemblance to Dilip Kumar, so looks are important! P.S. Akshay Kumar is a possibility (matching the stats).
Jai - Abishek Bachchan
Abhishek has been considered a flop actor, as was his Father in his earliest films. 'Sholay' was one of the major turning points in Amitabh's career and could be for Abishek. Regardless, looks wise, no one else can fit Amitabh's shoes, other than his son. Also, Abishek has prooved his diversity ('Yuva'/'Sarkar'), which shows he can manage Jai's role. After all, 'Jai' was almost a tragic hero, more than what meets the eye.
Basanti - Priety Zinta
“Kyunke mujhe befuzool baat karne ki aadat to hai nahin!” Need I say more. Basanti was bubbly, talkative and fun, strikingly like Preity Zinta, if she has any quality in acting, its the fact she can get things lively. Definite Basanti for me.
Radha - Rani Mukherjee
Rani is arguably the most talented actress in India. Radha although hardly ever spoke, if ever! Is a difficult role to play because it is a character's repressed feelings rather than expression of feelings. Who better to capture that role? We've seen Rani in 'Black' what more can I say? Who will look as beautiful as she did, without any make up, just in a white sari? Also, I think Abishek and Rani work good together and look good together (evident in 'Yuva' to 'Bunty Aur Babli'). Again, looks wise, doesn't it remind you of Amitabh and Jaya, I mean how Amitabh (Abishek) is so tall and Jaya Bachchan (Rani) so short!
Malikka Sherawat as Gypsy Dancer (‘Mehbooba Mehbooba’), Johnny Lever as Jail Warden (Hitler) and Rajpal Yadav as Soorma Bhopali in special appearances!
Gabbar- Shah Rukh Khan, ( he would have to gain 30 pounds for the role and grow a beard, and definitely get a different haircut) And i'd make him get acting lessons before i signed him for the movie.
Jai- Bobby Deol( i think he could pull it off, he did the silent treatment in bichoo)
Veeru- Akshay Kumar( you could put anyone as veeru, but Akshay is a personal favorite)
Thakkur- Manoj Bajpai ( he's so good, he'll pull it off easy)
I think if Akshay Kumar was "Jai", that would be good. Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan have damn good chemistry. Even in "Main Khildai Tu Anari" Akshay wasthe silent fighter, with punchy one liners, while Saif was very outspoken.
i think this woul be the perfect cast for the sholay remake, u could just imagine the film with these brilliant actors, it would be amazing to watch all the talent from different generataions of bollywood work together, how ever that wont be possible, i hope that the actors that rgv has chosen will fit the bill and we wont be disappointed.
y didnt abhishek do the role of jai???????????????? he would b perfect from wat i have seen everyone agreees
Abhishek was not cast as "Jai", because RGV (Ram Gopal Varma) believes in surprising the audience. However, Abhishek will not be in this movie anymore, and has been replaced by Saif Ali Khan. This is because Abhishek is working on a film with Mani Rtam, and could not change the dates. However, there was a rumor that RGV then thought that he didnt want son beating up father, however I don't believe this. The shooting of RGV Ka Sholay will probably take place around February, and the film should release SUMMER 2006. Right now Amitabh is shooting in New York with the rest of the cast and crew for Karan Johar's "Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna". They should be done filming by Dec. And then, Amitabh will resume his filming of "Baabul" with Hema Malini. I think most of the shooting is done for "Baabul". Bachchan also is going to film for "Gangaa" a Bhojpuri film, in which he and Hema Malini will have guest appaerances as the heroe's son (Deepak Kumar's son. Deepak Kumar is Amitabh's long time make up man) And Amitabh also has to shoot his parts for "Happy New Year" (A.B., Shahrukh, Juhi Chawala, Uday Chopra, Priyanka Chopra, Sanjay Dutt, "Raftaar" (A.B., John Abraham", "God Tussi Great Ho" (A.B., Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra), and "Baiju Aur Tansen" (A.B., Shahrukh) Some probable scripts are "Chandramukhi", a film with Tabu, and shooting for RGV's previously shelved "Ek" with son Abhishek Bachchan will start at the end of next year.
