Why is it going straight to DVD?

I watched this movie and its actually pretty good, sure its nothing special but its better than most horror films i've seen in theaters lately. I think it should be released in theaters.

It's definitely a boilerplate film, but I thought it was very enjoyable at that.

It's actually very expensive to have prints made, etc. for theatrical showings, so they probably figured it would be easier to recoup their costs and make a bit of profit by avoiding those extra costs, since they knew this film wasn't going to be a blockbuster, but would more than likely have pretty good sales to rental outlets (since there are a couple popular younger actors, like Amanda Seyfried, there is a "cult favorite" in R. Lee Ermey, it's a horror/thriller, etc., so rental outlets would purchase many copies).
